Great idea, avoid the carnage at least source, and the layout of the track means he won't lose much time..
When do they release him though, it's a long pit exit and it comes out on Radiion... Presumably the other 21 drivers will be doing 160mph over the top of Radiion before Hamilton gets to start?

Pit lane start for Lewis, due to gearbox change.
I think they've changed it back (the penalty I mean). Starts at the back

Less than an hour to go
What's the weather forecast now?

Presumably pit lane start = chance to tinker set up for rain if likely

I don't think it would even be possible to take 9 new engines, as don't they have to fit and run them?

They take a couple of hours to fit, so only really possible to take around 3/4?

I don't really see the issue, its just putting hamilton back into the position he would have been without the failures, whilst potentially sacrificing a race.

Having 3 10 place penalties as 3 races due to failures at start of the season is not really in the spirit of the sport.
I think you can only take one per session?

Hedging their bets? They have more flexibility in tactics. Perhaps they thought that Alonso would be easy enough to pas at this circuit.

Looking forward to this one. It should be fun up front.

It's been confirmed that Lewis will start from the back of the grid and NOT from the pit lane. The Stewards issued an incorrect penalty in stipulating a pit-lane start, and changed it to an additional 5 place penalty instead.

Are they on double figures for gird penalties?

Really excited about this. It should be lively through the whole field. Hopefully a battle up front, loads of mid field battles and two good cars very out of position at the back, I won't know where to look.

I know, I know, but I think Alonso will have good pace here as well.

When the last car has passed the pit lane I think, so they'll be coming off the hairpin when he pulls who

This is correct, I posted before they changed it.

Alonso and Lewis are on 60+ places each.

6X! Hamilton is on a 60 place grid penaulty, along with Alonso.

Ted just used a measuring wheel to show how far back this would technically be!

Watching C4 now, the happy Vettel of last year seems a distant memory these days. Ferrari really are looking like a career graveyard. Is this the loss of James Allison or a return to the pre-Schumacher era?

Lewis's grid penalty is now 60 places. According to a little piece by Ted, this would translate on the track to starting at around the 150 metre marker board for the 'Bus Stop'.

Which is absolutely pointless as he is not starting there... just filling airtime.

I think I'll walk around Centre Court at Wimbledon. If I had any ability I could play there... smile

Startling at the back, would have meant he made something like five or so places up by half way round the lap. Starting from the pit, means he will still be catching Alsono up half way round the lap. I am guessing though, so let's see, but it's makes it harder for him.

It's not totally silly to show how far back 60 places would be. There is no real reason not to make them start back there. No sensors etc. In the track but that far back it doesn't matter. Flag man and medical car? Maybe an issue but not sure it would be insurmountable. Charlie has TV cameras to see what is happening ...

I'm quite excited about this race - possibly the best track of the year and we appear to be starting the race with 5 potential winners compared to the usual 2.

Fingers crossed that Kimi and Max can get a jump on Rosberg at the start. That would spice it up a lot as well.
