Hamilton taking a penalty this weekend. It will be interesting if he finishes right behind (or even ahead of) Rosberg..

Not long ago we could've safely assumed that Hamilton starting last would've finished on the podium- now I'm not so sure. Hoping for rain, and fortunately Spa rarely disappoints. If it does rain, we will probably have Red Bulls all over it and IMO Hamilton's chances of getting a podium will be no worse than Rosberg's. If it's dry I think Hamilton will struggle to get amongst the top four.

It is terribly hot right now. Forecast is that it will be 28°C coming Sunday. That is good for the atmosphere during our Saterday and Sunday BBQs, but it will not add to the excitement of the race I am afraid.

Forecast from the local weather program says Spa on Sunday should be a bit cooler than today - by about 1°C smile Also says it's about 29°C here just now and rising to about 33°C, but the thermometer at the north side of the house says 32.5°C in the shade and I have just abandoned working in the garden! I live about 75km north of Spa and about 1000ft lower in altitude.

I think more so than the weather a safety car is likely. It will also be very interesting to see if Rosberg is kamikaze the way he is with Hamilton if he has to race a Red Bull or two(who I think will be very fast on merit here).

Dr Z's recent analysis shows how close the state of play has been recently and with Rosberg comprehensively beaten by the Bulls over the past six races I think the Hamilton factor has been a major reason why Merc have kept winning.

Twitter has just "confirmed" that HAM is taking an engine penalty this weekend.

Kamikaze with Red Bull? Such as try to push them off the track at a hairpin? I don't think there is an "if" there, we know what he does in that situation with a Red Bull :-)

I wonder if we'll see Rosbergs signature move this weekend?

Brings him on target in terms of PU parts neutralising Rosberg's advantage and it's not going to lose him the championship lead. Smart.

If it were me I'd abandon qualy altogether and keep plenty of new tyres for the race, then hope for a couple of timely safety cars

It makes sense, to change the turbo and the MGU-H was going to a 15 place drop, do it twice to get to the end of the season it is only a 22 place drop at the most.

I'd like to think that Mercedes are going to spend all three practice sessions running on the favoured race tyre to optimise the car for the race, do the bare minimum to qualify, probably a single run in q3 on the non favour race tyre. Start on that, pit at the end of lap one and then spend the rest of the race on the favour race tyre giving it some serious 'Hammertime'.

I guess they can do one swap after FP3 and another after Qualifying, so two replacements is the limit of what they can "stack"?

You want his signature? Here you have it:

He personally handed it over to me after signing this afternoon during the pit walk. I didn't even have to ask for it.

Can't just abandon qually, technically he has to get a few laps in and within 107%... Sure they make exceptions but they wouldn't look kindly upon the championship leader sitting it out because strategy.

Think he could reverse that merc round in 107%

Spend Friday and sat perfecting race setup, save the best tyres, do they benefit from scrubbing nowadays ?

Then come out in q1 on tyres not needed for the race, bimble about, park up and have an early night.

Sunday, got for p2, result !

It doesn't really matter, the Merc is so much faster than the opposition he still has a nailed on 2nd.

I'm not so sure he'll get through the field then past the Red Bulls, or even Ferrari, without a bit of luck, but he should be a safe bet for 6th and retaining championship lead
