Unlikely there will be a definitive answer, just wanting to make sure I haven't missed anywhere.

I'm looking for sub £1500 cars. Find AT with there £50 odd listing fee somewhat lacking and PH often too specialist.

Ebay seems to to have to most content but a lot of junk. Gumtree search brings up all sorts of rubbish so I generally don't bother. Car & Classic maybe better for the older stuff but struggling to find much modern 2001+ on there.

Anywhere else I should be checking? Suppose owners forums would be worth looking at as I am looking for a couple of specific models.

Thanks

At this price point very few people sell a fully working, well serviced non bashed car. If you're OK with that then Facebook groups are good, especially the £1500 and under group

Guess it depends what kind of car you are after. Hatch / saloon? Diesel / petrol? etc etc.
£1500 will buy you a good car depending on the above.

2003 V70 or some sort of BM tourer 330i or the like. Petrol.

I know it's shed money but almost 3x what I spent on the last one!

Just wondering if there is any there sites I could be checking.

Honestly at that price range Facebook groups and digging through Gumtree ads are where you will find your cars. I have found my last 3 cars or so off Gumtree and 1 off Autotrader. I have looked at a few off of eBay but they have been in poor shape.

I always seem to find owners forums are more expensive.

Yeah good place to go if you want a rare or older motor in better than average condition and are willing to pay a slight premium above average private sale.

Ask around a few local dealers to see what kind of Part Exs they have had in, quite often dealers can't be arsed with having a <£2k part e sat on their forecourt so punt stuff off to other local dealers at the lower end of the market of straight to auction.

Retrorides does always seem to have some cheap cars, depends whether you want a stanced Volvo 340, crumbling seven series or a Boyzuku styled Nissan Sunny.

Pre loved is new to me. Not a bad site.

Quick browse found this.

Worth a call I think.

As mentioned, FB groups. Lots and lots of idiots on them, buying and selling, but cars change hands for very little money.

Ditto local facebook groups. I always spot bargains on there, gumtree is good too. Avoid autotrader/dealers like the plague at this pricepoint, the majority of them are dodgy.

Not sure if BS, pub bore or if there is any truth in it, but a guy at the pub was telling me he rocks up at the local WBAC waits til he spots something he likes, then asks the owner asks how much WBAC have offered and he offers £100 more. He seemed to be picking up some interesting cars on the cheap.

Depending on your timeframe this may be worth a try.

there are a considerable amount of Volvos purchased by private owners who keep them for years. I popped into my local Volvo dealer and talked to the sales manager and told him I was after a one owner px (My budget was £3k for a V70 D5 163 SE).

I managed to source one through AT that week, but 2.5 weeks later the dealer called me and offered me a car which met my criteria.

If time on your side it maybe worth a try.

Thanks, have considered that. Have a good indy 2 min up the road but their used stuff always seems quite expensive.

Might pop up for a chat.

Good idea actually, considering the majority of people are clueless when it comes to car values and WBAC seriously lowballs anything that is not German and Diesel. On £3000 or so vehicles, WBAC offers are normally £1500 and lower.
