British GP under threat again

Holidays, dishwashers, and the purchasing of a car could mostly be classed as an expensive or a luxury item with a significant financial hit, therefore layaway/finance makes total sense.
The British GP is for most purposes a single day sporting event (two days at a push) and therefore.......oh wait, I have this backwards don't I?
It is a total rip off nowadays - prices are crazy for one person, let alone if you wanted to take a family: https://tickets.formula1.com/en/3226-silverstone/
I used to go every single year with a premium grandstand seat but there are limits on how much I am prepared to be shafted before lube is required.
Can you include the£50 £55 (it has increased for 2017) sunday car park fee in the 0% finance?

It's a 3 day holiday and finance is being offered accordingly.
Personally I think it is rubbish anyway, even at a fraction of the cost. It's skewed by rose tinted glasses and mild jingoism.

On that we agree.
I beleive its a drivers circuit not a spectators circuit.
Hopefully Palmer will buy it and improve things.
That's a fair summary. It is fun to drive - I have in a Caterham, which is as good a way as any.I beleive its a drivers circuit not a spectators circuit.
Hopefully Palmer will buy it and improve things.
A special day that one.

when f1 goes completely to sky in about 2 years who will be left watching it then, cos i wont pay sky the money at all
No one <clip>... Plus million of viewers in other countries or were we being parochial?

It won't be on terrestrial, do you understand that? It definitely won't be on BBC, ITV, C4, for obvious reasons, C5 don't do motorsport, which leaves ITV4. Why would sky pick up any more casual viewers? Free to air is disappearing in other countries too.
Of course I understand and no need to patronise, that's what I said. The viewers who already watch Sky will carry on and some more may subscribe. Not the opposite. Simply because you personally won't subscribe to Sky doesn't mean others won't. Vaud said:
I'd be sad to lose a British GP, but I wouldn't lose that much sleep to lose Silverstone, I think it is a pretty average circuit.
Indeed.....in fact I'd say, it's now an awful circuit. The old Silverstone on the other hand.....
There are interesting, and probably very challenging times ahead for the F1 circus over the coming 5 years or so.

Loving the email from Silverstone offering 0% finance for 6 months for F1 tix !! How rediculous can it get ?
It's a product. How is it different from 0% on a holiday, dishwasher or car?If you have to offer finance then its obvious your customer base cannot really afford the price.
Affordability isn't the issue.
Value; is.
I can recall when the GP was at Brands Hatch. The day started with some Formula Ford action, F3, final F1 practice, a proper airshow (not just the Red Arrows), the Grand Prix itself with the day rounded off with a BTCC race. I can recall paying £30 for a basic entry ticket which would have been what, '83? '84?...so proportionally around the same level as today taking into account inflation.

For spectators? I doubt that, they've built in far too many ridiculous elements with the move to the Wing that it would be difficult to sort them. The sloping pitlane obscured from view, putting the new paddock out of reach without a bus (which admittedly impacts on spectators more so at events where it's actually accessible). When a circuit as busy as Silverstone is still unable to profit enough to build a permanent grandstand (and bridge) on the start straight due to Bernie's ridiculous fee structure, the future doesn't look too promising.
It's a flat, long, airfield circuit with almost no natural banking for spectators, meaningful improvements would run into the many, many tens of millions.

Have all announced that will be running full factory teams in Formula E when it finally switches to a one car format in 2019. Those are not tinpot companies, those are some of the leading brands in the motor industry and they have clearly decided that Bernies Money Train is something they don't want to be associated with. Loads of us on here have been banging this drum for a long, long time. Formula One is in deep, deep trouble and needs very serious changes to its entire infrastructure if it is to survive into the future.
On a pure marketing and economic perspective, how long are Mercedes going into continue in F1 if they don't have any real opposition and their two bitter rivals are battling wheel to wheel in another format featuring a technology that they rightly or wrongly consider to be the future? Much as people on here hate it, Formula E is not going anywhere and with those companies, the money that is being thrown at & the rule changes coming in, the people who are going to be running F1 in the future need to get a grip asap.
