In Britain I am inclined to agree.

In Germany its probably different.
Also remember that it's not all about public advertising and presence.

Vettel excels at the corporate stuff, so, for example, when we had a hospitality suite at Spa, he came along to do a Q&A and rewards presentation.

The value for Ferrari is being able to offer him to their major sponsors and technical partners in such a way and know he'll do a great job without controversy or dividing opinion.

WOW...how people forget quickly when they want to.....

....there was plenty of divided opinion and controversy in the Vettel V Webber years....

....remember when he acted like a spoiled brat and polarised opinion when he won too many races because things were boring.

From what I've seen, Hamilton among the current crop must surely be the most widely known internationally.

Proving that within the confines of this forum is easy; where's the 57 page 'Sebastian Vettel' thread full of people arguing about whether or not they like his clothes / image / music / dogs etc etc?

what gives you any indication that he will?

a 3 times champion that on his day can be untouchable...or a newbie fin?

personally I like bottas and think hes a great driver, will win race and now given his chance he could be champion...but in no way will be be whupping hamiltons bottom...don't kid yourself.

I'm not - just wondering what would happen.

As you say, Hamilton on top form is nigh on unbeatable in the right car, but I think he's mentally fragile.

Going to be a very interesting season for Mercedes.

indeed. Ive never understood why people think Hamilton is mentally fragile. in the past yes, but over the last few years hes learned to control it and play mind games (saw that with nico). Yes he shows his emotions and lets everyone know when hes either buzzing or utterly pissed off but that doesn't make him fragile..just means he lets us into his world a bit. lets face it hes not german or a fin!

Just playing devil' avocado.

I'm neither a fan or hater of Hamilton.

I just like decent racing.

Hope we get it.

MWAHAHA its started :-p

nah its all good, no harm meant, just like to see balanced opinions. I hope bottas does well against Hamilton, always rated him as a driver and hope he proves it now he has the chance...plus I hope there is a bit more harmony between team mates this year.

What will happen, as 37chevy has just sort of demonstrated in his answer to a semi-serious question, is that his most enthusiastic fans will loudly and in great detail explain to everyone, several times - that we are all kidding ourselves about something or other and that its a fix. wink

In all seriousness, I think the vast majority of F1 fans acknowledge how good Hamilton is. He may not be everyone's cuppa as a bloke, but who is?

There is just a small hardcore on each side (Hamilton can't drive in a straight line v if factors outside of Hamilton's control were taken away he'd never lose a race) that invade any place and it inevitably kicks off.

And ruins it for everyone

hmmm 1) it doesn't come across as a semi serious question, just a jab at lewis (because someone thinks bottas will whoop ass)

2) ive not said anything about it being a fix if lewis doesn't win and have said that bottas is a great driver

3) im not a most enthusiastic fan, I appreciate his skill but like other drivers too

what is more likely to happen is anti fanboys come on the forum and attack anyone who says something positive about lewis because they are either a)delusional and think hes crap or b) think he is only winning because hes in the best car, is the only driver to throw a paddy fit or play mind games, completely forgetting the 4 years previous to his world titles where vettel was the spoilt brat, then schumi before him, prost before that, senna before that....etc etc etc

EDIT: and since you've just edited your reply before I had chance to read it I think we agree on the second paragraph on.....

Bingo.

Vettel has been hated (and booed) the world over - how soon some of these fair weather fans forget...

Hamilton is a global superstar outside of F1 - Vettel is not. Who'd I rather have a chat with down at the pub; Vettel. But that's irrelevant. Hamilton is a sponsors wet dream. Whether he fits every team / pairing is of course; open to debate.

His hair is thinning though. You can see it's his main bugbear when he finishes races.
