I'm pleased for Hulkenburg, he is clearly a fine driver and seems like a good bloke. If the reports of the salary Renault are paying him are correct ($20m) they have clearly made him a financial offer he can't refuse.

Given their respective results over that last couple of years, It's interesting that he, and not Perez has got the opportunity to drive for a factory team. Perez is beating Hulk fair and square this season, and has won four career podiums, compared to Hulk's none.
$20m!!!!!! That's an awful lot of money for his ability.

Seven. (4 in their time together)

So far in their three years as team mates the points tally is:

Perez 217
Hulk 208

(But we all know that the teammate who scores the most points over a 3 year period isn't necessarily the quickest)

I think Renault were after Perez though? But he wants to keep his options open for 2018 iirc.

Yes. They wanted him to commit for a multi-year deal but as we all know, he wants Raikkonen's seat in 2018. I'm assuming his backers have some sway via the Claro sponsorship of Ferrari?

If Perez was offered a long term deal with Renault I think it was a mistake to turn it down in favour of a potential Ferrari move in 2018.... I mean if Ferrari wanted him they could have had him for 2017, heck even for 2016, but they stuck with Raikkonen and there is no reason to think they won't keep Raikkonen for as long as he keeps performing. There have already been rumours and hints from Raikkonen's manager that Kimi wants to extend to 2018 and Ferrari will probably confirm this early next year if the results are good.

Plus Ferrari is a shambles at the moment and I don't think it is that crazy to suggest a works Renault team could become serious contenders in the next couple of years.

I'm pleased for Hulkenberg though and hope Renault do make rapid steps forward.
