That was possibly the most militaristic opening ceremony I've ever seen. The singer in a military uniform, and then three helicopter gunships fly overhead followed by two troop-carrier helicopters.

USA! USA! USA!

No, I'm a race engineer often found on the grid at a race circuit, I've also flown aircraft solo. You?
Whoooo, go you!

They're putting on a show, stuff that thrills is generally risky, life would be very boring without such stuff.

Awesome parade lap.... behind a couple of ICBM launchers and a fleet of T-95 main battle tanks.

Why does the FOM director constantly cut away from on track action to show pit stops and other such less interesting stuff. mad

So if you have flown an aircraft solo, presumably you know how hard it was to actually "get down" if you were too fast on the approach, even with the engine on idle. How often I have wished I had another notch of flaps to make the aircraft "stop in mid air".

I.e. if the airshow director has done his/her job properly in terms of the display line, even a catastrophic loss of power would see the wreckage deposited somewhere a long way from the actual grid. You don't fly directly at the crowd for example ...

It wouldn't be allowed in the UK, you have to fly a path that keeps you away from crowds, but anyway, lets get back to the race. biggrin

I love the camera just behind the helmet, they don't seem to use it much though. Edit - I mean the lower camera slightly off centre, not the standard one above and directly behind.

Agree, I think Brundle said it was the angle that gave the best view of what the driver sees.

Did Hamilton's pit stop seem a bit leisurely or was it just the camera angle?

Interesting to hear Hamilton called into the pits then cancelled so Rosberg could come in instead ...

so did Ham overrule or ignore the box call and let Ros go first?

On the tv it looked like Ham got the box call first?

Mercedes never allow the 2nd car a pit that might risk the undercut on their lead driver, hampered hamilton several times this way... oh, hang on...

Why did hamilton pit anyway if he was circulating the same pace as ricc?
