First corner tomorrow will be interesting - Rosberg can afford contact with both crashing out where as Hamilton simply can't. Will Vettel torpedo his team mate again (seems to have made a habit of it this year when starting behind him)?
I'm hoping DR gets a great start and takes NR out at the first corner.hairyben said:
Yeah what are the support races like? The septics do put on an event properly and seriously thinking about getting over.
Historic F1 cars and Porsche Supercup. I was there with the Historics last year, it was a shame the weather was so bad, the race ended up being 4 laps behind the safety car. Cars were spinning off even at that pace!I watched the race from the corporate box behind the support paddock. Free food and drink, TV in front of me and a great view of the middle complex made up a bit for 3 days of being soaked to the skin.
Its a great place to see a race, Austin is a great city and plenty to do if you want a longer stay. I used it as my end of year holiday and drove over 4000 miles all over the states to Vegas and back.

Considering it's only quali I'm surprised how many people have turned up, unlike this thread ,maybe they have good support races.
Taylor Swift concert, hence the crowd and the surplus of 'celebrities'. jsf said:

Taylor Swift concert, hence the crowd and the surplus of 'celebrities'. These SuperSofts barely hung on for two sectors. Rubbish! Feel a bit robbed of two phenomenal laps from the Merc drivers on their final runs. Start tomorrow will be interesting as Rosberg is on the inside but Ricciardo is on the Supersofts...should help with that initial bite off the line.
I'm liking RB drivers working as a team to attack the Mercs tomorrow. Ricciardo charging into the lead and backing up the Mercs into Verstappen...one can dream, right? But I fear Merc got it spot on doing the Q2 runs on the Soft. All set for an interesting race, I think.

I tend to pre empt a race by watching as many old races at that venue (or at least the same country) as possable, well at least before utube take them down
Because the TV coverage was more interested in showing any celeb they could find rather than the fastest lap ever ('look, we're relevant, here's Gerrard Butler again!') I may as well ask...
Who was the girl in the Mercedes garage stood next to Christoph Waltz who then congratulated Hamilton outside the FIA garage (not Venus Williams)?

Was following it in live timing. Hamilton had been quick in the first sector all weekend. Rosberg's best had been in the final sector. During the final run it was very very close between the Merc drivers. Hamilton put in a tremendous first sector on his final run, nearly three tenths quicker than Rosberg. Then Rosberg put in a purple second sector-- already Hamilton was slower than Rosberg around there. It was brilliantly poised at that point.
If Rosberg could have replicated his best final sector from his other run in which he was 2 tenths quicker than Hamilton, the gap would have been in the hundreds than tenths. As it was, Rosberg couldn't match his best and Hamilton too barely improved in the final sector. If the tyres had held on, we could have seen a more thrilling battle between the Merc drivers.
It is like the old school quali tyres as someone said above. However, it shows that the SuperSofts were not a good tyre for this track. If you take too much out of it on the high speed stuff (as Hamilton did on his final run) you're struggling in the next two sectors. Ricciardo will have a tough job in the first stint today if the conditions remained like yesterday. Some cloud cover will be welcome for him.
