Nico Rosberg retires from F1

What an absolute loser, i was never one of those who complained that he only won due to Lewis' issues and am not a massive Lewis fan. But this just shows what Nico thinks of his chances of repeating the win next year.
What a weak way to leave.
The man has just won the World F1 Title against one of the best driver of all time, I would not call him a loser, everyone has there time, and there is more to life then F1. Good for him. What a weak way to leave.
Late to this thread obviously.
Well done to Nico leaving when on top and not hanging around for the cheque or some slim glimmer of a chance at extra glory.
31, Married, new kid, is F1 WDC, has Millions, lives in Monaco. Lewis may have the edge on raw racing talent in a car, but it looks like Nico is winning at his own life just fine. I'm sure, like JYS, he'll never look back.

Well after being a little incredulous at the news, I have to say I'm quite impressed by Nico Rosberg over this-and I'm a fully died in the wool Lewis fanboy.
Nico, especially during the press interviews immediately after the race in Abu Dhabi looked a broken man, absolutely spent. He even mentioned it repeatedly how that race was the hardest thing he's ever had to do and never wanted to experience it again. A testament to his character, he continued to congratulate Lewis on his performance and said how difficult it had been to beat him.
At one point (about 6 mins in to the conference) he looked to burst into tears, not of joy but he looked seriously pained. I don't think people realise just what a herculean effort it takes these drivers to perform at the top when sometimes only a hundredth of a second can split them, I also don't think even Nico's most ardent supporters (or LH's haters!) can honestly say he's the better driver.
But, but......he has shown over three years he can take it to any of the multiple world champions and has beaten one of the greats to the title in the same car.
In the rare eventuality that Nico would ever actually read this post, you have my admiration sir.

Hamilton's withering comment about Nico winning for the first time in 18 years may be statistically accurate, but was uncalled for. The guy has zero class.
Maybe it's the sort of thing that just doesn't lend itself very well to being written down in print?I don't particularly like Hamilton or Rosberg but it seems like that particular line was something that just wasn't phrased right, it seems at odds with the rest of what Hamilton said. I mean, I think Hamilton is the sort of person that isn't always very good at putting his thoughts into words, I am willing to believe it isn't a calculated jab at Rosberg.
Maybe that's naive though.
"Well, this is the first time he has won in 18 years, hence why it's not a surprise that he decided to stop."
That to me is a unambiguously withering comment and is just unnecessary. I don't think there can be any other way to take that comment than as it was said.
Brilliant driver, but no class.

I wish him the best for his next career phase. Management, tuition, Le Mans, just being a dad, etc.Well done to Nico leaving when on top and not hanging around for the cheque or some slim glimmer of a chance at extra glory.

Hat-gate really did seem to be a turning point. He said he was angry at himself for the way he threw away the race. I wonder if he went away and considered quitting then and there vs putting in one or two years of single-minded pursuit. I have a picture of Nico beginning a giant hellish year-long Rocky Montage that very evening. The only thing I'd disagree with is that I'm really disappointed he has made this decision. I was hoping to see Nico raise his game further next year and be part of a really dramatic year. But fair play, he has achieved what he wanted and will now enjoy family life, can't criticize him for it but I will miss him on the grid.Nico, especially during the press interviews immediately after the race in Abu Dhabi looked a broken man, absolutely spent. Congrats to Nico. Okay so Hamilton might be a tripple world champion but where it matters Nico Rosberg is winning at life. Luckily I have the love of my life and my family around me. Even though I am a borderline fanatical petrol head I would give it up in a instant for my family. Hamilton doesn't have that wealth which is worth more than all the money or trophies in the world and he knows it.
I can see why Lewis would grate some people up the wrong way, but good lord f1 would be boring without him.
A thread about the current wdc retiring a week after lifting the trophy, and the thread somehow becomes the Lewis Hamilton thread like every other on this forum.
Whether you love or hate him, he's without a doubt the biggest, recognised person in motorsport history.

That's down to opinion. I myself, would prefer to travel the world as Lewis does, banging any model he likes and owning houses in Cali, Colorado, etc etc.
I find that much more appealing than settling down with wife and kid.
Matter of opinion though.

I agree. He is no Schumacher or Senna. I think he is more of a "one-season Prost", Jacques Villeneuve or Damon Hill. Very smart, right place, right time and maximised the kit he had to secure the advantage to win.
I'm not tribal in my support (these days - I used to be to Schumacher) - I will remember Nico's WDC with the respect that it is due and some awe given the capability of his team mate (Lewis is awesome, on track and physcologically).

I guess I would try and see it as Hamilton trying to say "He has been in F1 a while, now he has achieved his goal it makes sense that he wants to spend time with his family".
For all the benefit I try and give him though it's true that what he actually said was fairly unambiguous and very uncalled for. It's a shame, I like to think that things like this are a good opportunity to bury the hatchet and let bygones be bygones.
As you say, brilliant driver but not a very well judged thing to say.
