Disappointed with these comments and is the reason my initial thoughts were soft.
Reminds me of something my brother taught me growing up. We had a large table in our home perfectly sized for ping-pong, me and my younger fashioned a net from some leftover flooring and turned to my older brother to teach us the rules. My little bro wasn't really old enough to get the skill nuances of the game like spin etc. so it was my older brother I'd play competitively. He'd win and I'd get mad, but he'd always say "Best of three?" after crushing me regardless of what he had on. Eventually, I got good enough to beat my him and instinctively knew I had to extend him the same courtesy. It's the done thing; the sporting thing. You don't run away after the taste of victory, you man up and you invite your competitor to duel again.
You're just talking immature crap.Disappointed with these comments and is the reason my initial thoughts were soft.

Lewis pulling out of the Pirelli tyre test after just 7 laps at Abu Dhabi on Tuesday and then Wherlein taking over, now makes perfect sense. It's obvious that Lewis set a benchmark against which Wherlein can be compared in the same car in the same conditions as an "audition" for the vacancy which Mercedes knew was about to become available. Does anyone know the lap times from the testing?

Interesting idea. Certainly I sure they would be interested in seeing his performance, but with toto & lauda's almost obsessive desire for 1,2 in every GP, and uncertainty on if they will be still the leading team, I would thing they would want the best they can get.Edited by buckshee on Saturday 3rd December 16:34
Apparently Lauda took it badly. He thought he'd go for a second title.
Backed the wrong pony there sweetie.
Sadly there's not much real talent on the current grid.
You'd be mad to take Vettel or Alonso.
Better to have a new, exciting talent with a matured driver (a la Alonso/LH in 2007).

You can have your next inaccurate and personal reply for free. I won't respond again.I have made several comments on the ruthlessness of Nico's tactics. And every time I have done so, I've pointed out that these guys are at the pinnacle of a very high value professional sport and most will do whatever they have to do to win - fair or not, cheating or not (if they can get away with it), classy or not.
I have contrasted the fact that he has used these tactics with some of the ludicrous claims that Lewis crossed a line on Sunday by trying to cost the team points and trying to do more than just beating his team mate. All these drivers have questionable traits, they can't get to where they are by being lovely (despite what some of ones who are more talented at the PR machine would try to have you believe).
I will miss Nico next year. He has done what he had to do and is a deserving WDC - and I've been saying that if he is successful, he has certainly done enough to be deserving for several months. I was hoping he would take his driving up another level having crossed such a massive threshold.
Foolish in the extreme, willfully delusion...... OK.

From what I've seen; like me, he says Rosberg is a great driver worthy of respect... but no legend of the sport. Many on here assume that if you think Hamilton is a great driver then you automatically hate the rest of the field, including Rosberg. I've said since the Schuey Merc days that Rosberg is proving to be a VERY fast driver. And he has gone on to prove that year in year out; does that mean he's done nothing dubious? (Monaco quali' being he classic for me) - no. Does that mean there's a lot of hypocrisy on here stating Rosberg is the epitome of class? yes!
It isn't one or the other... but many feeble minds on here, need it that way to converse... it seems.
Thank you, that pretty much captures my view. And I'd add for balance that Lewis is quite capable of doing or saying the wrong thing too.It isn't one or the other... but many feeble minds on here, need it that way to converse... it seems.
Dr Z. Great collection of photos and a nice reminder of the path to WDC that Nico took (and the emotion of winning it for him).
It also has me reflecting on F1 and all of the issues we have in the sport with respect to regulations and lack of wheel to wheel racing at the front..... For all of that it is a beautiful spectacle and a glorious sport with fabulous machines and brilliant drivers. I'm in a minority but I think this era has many positives that make it as good as any.
Am hopeful that Ferrari and RB have got their sums right, and next year is going to be awesome - Can't wait for 2017 !

I wonder if we will see Nico in Formula E when Mercedes join in a couple of seasons? Would be a big PR coup for Mercedes, give Nico a year off then a less intense city centre based series more compatible with family life?
I get the impression we'll not ever see him race in anything again - period.(other than the odd PR/demo/Festival of Speed type event)

The following is a list of all the drivers who have won the WDC then not stayed in F1 the following year to defend it. (One had a good excuse.)
Mike Hawthorn (1958)
Jochen Rindt (1970)
Nigel Mansell (1992)
Alain Prost (1993)
Nico Rosberg (2016)
In other words, the other 28 all did.
Does this mean Hamilton has to carry the number 0 next year?
Apart from the one you mention mansell wasnt offered a contract renewal (and was off to indy anyway) and did prost have more than a 1 year deal? He was in his twilight anyway and had " the top records" of the time... Mike Hawthorn (1958)
Jochen Rindt (1970)
Nigel Mansell (1992)
Alain Prost (1993)
Nico Rosberg (2016)
In other words, the other 28 all did.

Be good to see someone like verstappen in the Merc and get rid of Hamilton after that Abu Dhabi ritual...he should be sacked !
What for ?speedysoprano said:
Yeah that'll happen. Sacked for being a hard-nosed racer who tries to extract the best possible results for himself. Good one. ??
I thought Mercedes were paying him to follow team orders if necessary.... he didn't ! All the same though.. it doesn't matter because the right man won the championship.
Thanks all, hope it lifted up the mood here.

Great post Dr Z. Would like to see more collections like that summing up F1 driver careers. Fancy starting a thread?
Thanks, actually I'm compiling some pics for the whole season which I'll post as a new thread. I'll do something for JB and Massa there. theAmerican said:

But surely by this logic they would have to keep going again and again until some one dies of old age.Disappointed with these comments and is the reason my initial thoughts were soft.

Hamilton came in won two - and by your logic di the rematch thing, which Nico won on the second go,
Then Nico should give him a rematch which someone, probably Hamilton would win
And then he is morally obliged to offer a rematch
And so it goes on and on and on
1min 15 seconds in. What an utter tt. I'm a huge fan of the mans driving, but as a person, he is a cock.
