Funny how Hamilton has been slaughtered by some on PH for not being a "team player" for daring to try to win the title in his last race and yet those same people are trying to defend Rosberg who walked out on the team that made it possible for him to win his title, within a day or so of achieving it and only a few weeks after signing a new contract.
Unbelievable...
Indeed it is. You won't be hearing from them on the subject. Unbelievable...
Apart from that signing a contract then backing out is dodgy, but then again Merc can fill that seat with anyone and it'll be 1-2's all the way and in fact he has done them a favour as they will get a young number 2 driver in now so no chance of them crashing into each other.
I don't think anyone has said they adore Nico, just more that hes average driver that just happened to be able to beat Lewis...

WTF are you going to do for a hobby when (unrelated before you launch into one) Lewis retires and Mercedes fall back into the pack leaving another team to dominate F1, as will undoubtedly happen in coming years? Will you STFU on this repetitive, obsessive nonsense then, or find another unrelenting boring troll angle to send us all to sleep.
I think most in here who have any involvement in, or basic notion of F1 have agreed that you need a good car to win the WDC, and that most drivers in F1 are fairly close in skills. Some interesting posters who are not quite so obsessive and boring/nerdy can recognise that there are a few drivers who have proven themselves as a tiny percent more elite news than others - plus or minus the good fortune required to win consistently over years and different manufacturers, and some can consistently deliver the best against benchmark from the equipment at their disposal, whatever badge it carries.
This seems to be a recognition and frankly a tolerance for differing views that you and a few others seem to lack.

I live near Oxford, so close to most F1 teams, therefore not surprising that I know guys that work for some of them.
I doubt that Paddy is fully in-the-loop on this. The only hope for Bottas is what Mercedes can offer Williams. They need to be in front of Force India, and not slipping even further back. I doubt even a 3-year free engine deal would encourage Frank to let him go. Joe Saward has already backtracked and is now suggesting the obvious choice. And that is the man who already has a Mercedes contract.
It is just too late in the season to start unpicking driver contracts.

Seemed reasonably competitive, though hard to draw absolute conclusions. Ferrari were pretty happy at the time IIRC.

I remember the test but it doesn't really tell you anything, different car/engine and 1.6 seconds off the fastest time.http://www.crash.net/motogp/news/77028/1/rossi-mat...

Why won't you? Nico is like the rest of them a driver who would get no where in a lesser car, the fact he was able to win races and win WDC is testament to the Merc dominance and the only saving grace for Nico is that he beat a guy on many occasions over 3 years who people call the 'greatest'.

People refer to Lewis as 'possibly one of the greats', I haven't seen anyone call him 'the greatest' but maybe I've missed it.
It's not about being able to fill a seat. It's about the chaos it causes to the team when they will have had a long term plan. It isn't a classy way to retire - BUT it's Nico's life and he's entitled to do as he wishes - I wish him a happy retirement.
I love MotoGP and I think Rossi may well be the greatest (and still one of the best). He made too many errors this year, particularly in the wet, which cost him his 10th title. Was it this year at Misano he also had an engine blow up? One more go this year and I have my fingers crossed. You like Rossi? He has been accused of many of the character traits that people accuse Lewis of. I believe he loves motorbikes and love racing, but how ruthless is he? He's prepared to do anything on track or politically (causing disruption within the team) to achieve his aims.
It's very unlikely they could make the switch to F1 though. I have no doubt they could get within a reasonable percentage (I'm sure this percentage is closer than it would be for most drivers heading the other way), but at this highest level it's extremely small margins that divide the drivers (hence why the car is so important).

And when he does try getting defence, he blabbers on about being a foreigner in the UK, how much of a tough time he's had since the vote for brexit, and how he isn't treated the way he should be bla bla.

I remember a smelly boy in school and do you know what i didn't join in the bullying.
So come Australia if Merc are still dominant i guarantee that it will be a 1-2 qualy regardless of who is in the 2nd seat... why does that cause so much abuse?
I'm a German, i'm proud of Mercedes technical skill.

It might be my OCD kicking in, I was stating 'one of the greatest' (though I added probably - as a personal point) as what was often said.I was drawing distinction to you saying 'the greatest'... appologies if it was a bit pedantic but I felt it an important distinction.
