Plenty on here seem to live out their achievements on how Lewis does.
And fair play to them, your comment is a bit inane frankly as I know many of my UK friends are proud of what their forefathers did in the World wars as am I s a German as they rid the world of the Nazi's. Same as i'm ashamed of what Hitler and his henchmen did.
I'm proud of my family's achievements.

So Dennis aren't you proud of anything other than what you achieve?
Thanks for you input in the argument. It is nice to know you are proud of what someone, not you did. I suppose that means you must also be ashamed of what the slavers did. The Mill owners, those nuns who tortured children in workhouses. It is a wonder you mind can take the strain of all that guilt.

I believe everything that Briatore says. I'm sure everyone does.

There's no point in him opening his mouth.

I would wager that Alonso would do almost anything to get into that seat, including a massive pay cut. He has not been happy back at McLaren at all really has he (GP2 engine hehe )

Certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that he would take a huge cut for 2017, then Mercedes use that cash saved to pay the no doubt huge penalties and contract release, and then normal contract and salary for 2018.

Of course, with Alonsos luck, he would do all that, only to find the McLarens at the front next year hehe

With John Glenn sadly passing away I was reminded of how he went back into space when he was in his 70's so what about Jackie Stewart or Nigel Mansell.

didn't J Stewart give Montoya a lesson on how to drive quickly, not all that long ago?

I recall JYS giving DC a lesson in how to drive a car "smoothly". He just went slower and slower.

Its possible that I am mis-remembering this anecdote. I thought they did laps together in the car. JYS going for smoothness and JP thinking he was going in slow motion. They then reverse and JP drives the balls off the thing, giving it a proper spanking only to find JYS was quicker. Can't remember where I read this, but if true, a cracking story.

It was the McLaren MP4/4 in 1988, which only missed a clean sweep because in the Italian GP, Senna was taken off while trying to lap Jean-Louis Schlesser in the Williams (deputising for Mansell who was off with chickenpox), allowing the Ferraris of Berger and Alboreto to take an emotional 1-2, less than a month after the death of Enzo Ferrari.

To be fair to the red team, the two Ferraris were closing on the sole McLaren and Senna was pushing it. If they hadn't been, he might have waited until after the chicane before attempting to pass.

What were the odds, eh? The one race where the Ferraris were competitive was the Italian GP just after the boss died.
The truth is Senna was under the fuel capacity required to finish the race, it was absolutely imperative he kept momentum up to reduce his fuel burn or he wouldn't finish the race. Senna was told to go flat out at the start to try and force the Ferrari's to blow their engines. He could then cruise to any easy win. The surprise was the Ferrari didn't fail, so Mclaren had a problem.

Interesting article from the beeb. I've always thought Bottas would get the Merc seat as it makes the most sense (to me at least) but I'm now doubtful. I think Williams have big aspirations for the next few seasons and they won't want to let Bottas go, he's a bloody good driver!

I'm now thinking Merc will go down the 1-2 route and take Wherlein

I read that story as told by Gerhard Berger in a magazine this year, can't recall which publication though!
