Autosport said:
The likelihood of Valtteri Bottas taking the Mercedes seat vacated by Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has increased as it emerged the Finn visited the team's factory before Christmas.

It is understood Bottas tried out the cockpit of the 2017 Mercedes to begin planning a potential seating position, and ran through initial technical preparations with the engineers he could be working with next year.

It remains uncertain whether a final contract for Bottas to join Mercedes has been signed.

At least a proper number 2 driver should help LH to another title...

Not that Lewis has ever wanted a number 2 or needed help

I'd not be so quick to assume Bottas will roll over for Lewis if he's in front of him, plus we don't know exactly how quick Bottas will be it could turn out that he doesn't adapt quickly & ends up behind Ferrari/Redbull.

That'll be why his contract says they have to discuss the matter of the other driver with him..........

I meant that he hasn't needed a number 2 driver to roll over for him

They may have to discuss it with him, but that doesn't mean he has any influence in their decision. It could be as simple as them telling him a certain time before the public announcement.

That's entirely different to what realist was saying though....I would think it's common sense to let your current driver know of a new member of staff before it becomes public....

..I'd still love to know how realist knows the inner workings of hamiltons contract

Then of course there's the fact Toto has said on many occasions they will NOT have a 1 2 driver line up, that they owe it to the fans to allow the 2 drivers equall treatment ect ect but why let the truth interupt in ill imformed post confused

Lewis said in an interview that they have to discuss it with him but that he has absolutely no say in the decision.

A discussion with zero input from one side is not a discussion

That's not what he said, he has an input and opinion to offer in the discussion but what he doesn't have is a vote or veto in the final decision.

Flame me but Bottas is quite similar to heikki kovalainen. A good competent driver but it'll be a repeat of McLaren. Surely Mercedes know that? So how would Bottas be a 'brave decision'?
