There's a complete lockdown on all info from the family. Respect the families wishes- Sadly speaks volumes.

I think the chances of a particularly meaningful recovery are slim to the point of non-existent.

I echo the point about the lockdown

I think I recall reading his life expectancy will be much lower too. Although it depends on exactly what his condition is.

It'd be nice, for me anyway, to see Mick Schumacher make his way to F1 and for Dad to pop up unexpectedly at a race at some point in the future. I think that's more than wishful thinking though.

No Hill saw he'd gone off and Schu steered across - if we'd seen just that in his career...but then Schu showed us that streak/move again with JV. Hill was a twice champ. There was talk about the cars- those special tyres, TC, overfuelling etc however that's not the topic.

The pics- I don't care for them. They won't be attractive at all. I doubt we'll see him again. The families complete lockdown speaks volumes sadly. frown
Hill didn't know the extent of Schuey's 'mistake' ...only Schuey knew at that time that he'd kissed the wall

“I didn’t see him hit the wall,” said Hill. “I saw him coming back across the grass, and onto the track. I thought ‘hello, you’ve slipped up there’, but of course I thought his car was OK.”

Any racer would've then done exactly what Hill did, with the information he had at the time, not every racer would've done what Micheal did
That's the key to the whole thing.

If indeed Damon didn't see the Benetton hit the wall then of course he'd go for the gap as we all would.

If he did see the wall he'd have waited, or at least, the very best would've waited. Even Senna would've, despite his 'if you no longer go for the gap' bks.

At most, 10-12 years from time of incident is my guess. But it could be a lot less.

One of the newspapers should have arranged a "sting" where the scumbag selling the photos was recorded on camera, then publish that instead.
It may exist already.
I very much doubt the photographer is the one approaching the tabloids unless he's completely devoid of a brain.

Would you really put it past The Sun or the Mail to run a story with pictures of Schumacher?

Wouldn't be the first time they've disgraced themselves for publicity.

Do you think he will ever recover?
I was always a huge fan of him.
Not fully, though he may regain enough consciousness to communicate on a simple level and do the simplest of tasks (like put a spoon to his mouth and eat without the assistance of a feeding tube etc). Beyond think I don't think he will be able to walk unaided or have a great deal of autonomy.

Unless we see a huge breakthrough in medical science in brain/neurological damaged patients I think we're going to be limited. That said, I have high hopes for CBD (cannabidiol) and its efficacy in treating a wide spectrum of disorders.

to look at the massive achievements made by Eddie Kidd after his brain injuries, but you couldn't ever say he was back to 'normal'

Officially he was out of the coma in June 2014 but in April 2014 (around about Bahrain GP time) there were reports he was showing signs of consciousness.

Hill was 100% correct in going for the overtake, don't forget at that point in the race Schumacher was starting to pull away (enough that he ran off and hit the wall before Hill was round the corner). It was an underhand move by Schumacher that won him the Championship but very often great talent alone is not enough, you have to have a desire to win which means you push the boundaries to the max - Michael did that and became an F1 great.

It was a great period in F1 though and Damon did fantastically well to win a world championship during Schumacher's reign.

All in my opinion of course... thumbup

No, the suggestion of a sting, the person approaching the tabloids will be an intermediary so that if they decide to out him instead then it wont work as they don't know the identity of the photographer.

The family will know who visited him. I'm guessing that is a small list?

Yes, probably a very small list and I imagine all of them people who the family thought they could trust.....

Just saw him on Top gear (where he pretends to be the stig)

Kinda poignant now, I always thought after 97 or so, he mellowed a bit in his interviews away from the track. At a circuit he's in full on destroy the opposition mode. But he always seemed personable away from it.

He gave a large wedge after the Tsunami which he didn't want publicised until (ex manager) blabbed

He was always demonised by the UK press... he definitely set up some layers of defence against most PR. Did a lot off track, charity fans, etc that he kept private.
