Just saw him on Top gear (where he pretends to be the stig)
Kinda poignant now, I always thought after 97 or so, he mellowed a bit in his interviews away from the track. At a circuit he's in full on destroy the opposition mode. But he always seemed personable away from it.
He gave a large wedge after the Tsunami which he didn't want publicised until (ex manager) blabbed
He was always demonised by the UK press... he definitely set up some layers of defence against most PR. Did a lot off track, charity fans, etc that he kept private.Kinda poignant now, I always thought after 97 or so, he mellowed a bit in his interviews away from the track. He personally donated $10m to the tsunami fund. Says a lot about the human behind the racer.
I was lucky enough to meet Michael a few times when he was having his three years off and I can honestly say that off the track out of competition you could not meet a nicer guy with an immense amount of time for his fans.
On track he was ruthless, but I don't see Adelaide 1994 as anything other than instinctual. Jerez 1997 however was a different matter, but then it was against JV who is a bit of a tool so I can forgive him ;-)
I wish him all the best, but fear we may never see even a glimpse of the old Schuey again :-(
