Gen II GT3: pdk or manual
Discussion
It was hinted by my local OPC that, despite only having bought a couple of new cars, my early expression of interest (mid 2014) in the GenII GT3 may actually put me in good stead for a build slot. Now I'm not holding my breath but it got me thinking as to whether or not I'd opt for the pdk or manual (should it actually be available).. manual is gonna be more fun, obvs, and you can always get a boggo standard daily driver with a modern auto box, so a manual makes good sense. I then get to wondering why the regular 991s in manual is so unpopular and resale values are so poor compared to, say an earlier GT car, to which it would give a good whipping round a track. Anyway, I was wondering if there were any thoughts on it..
This years GT3 will get the 991 GT3 RS PDK S box and the possibly less aeroed version the 911 R 'manuel' box.
Both will be eminently suitable for the car. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
You cannot compare a 991 S Carrera with a GT3 in anyway, least of all residually.
But fwiw, the early 'manuel' Carreras had a relatively poor box but despite this have held up relatively well residually.....and especially compared to the vanilla 997 s.
New GT3 residual forcast. Up to 2 years old parity between gearbox types. After 2 years the 'manuel' will be ahead. Despite anticipated 50 50 sales by Porsche.

It won't. The Gen 2 will be PDK only.Lesser models will have the manual option. Both will be eminently suitable for the car. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

How does this differ from the PDK-S gearbox in the Gen 1 991 GT3?Both will be eminently suitable for the car. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I believe the cooking models have a 7 speed manual box which is not the same as the 4.0 RS / 991 R style 6 speed box.
Think a 7 speed box in a GT3 would vex many a manual lover
I'd be surprised if they didn't use the " R" box...incredibly expensive to use it for a run of just 900 odd cars ?!?!Think a 7 speed box in a GT3 would vex many a manual lover

Not according to a number of reliable sources. Also, whilst he has been known for several 'inaccuracies' before, primarily in the name of 'marketing', Andreas Preuninger confirmed on the 1.3.16. that the 911 R manual gearbox is extremely likely to be offered in the gen 2 GT3. Also fwiw, confirmed and reported in Autocar on 14.7.16.
In addition to the 'manuel' option, looks like the next GT3 will have a similar 4.0 engine to the 991 GT3 RS (hopefully including the most recent durability 'improvements') with power and torque just under that of the RS.
I'm hoping for a slot on the 991.2GT3 and after being out tonight in my Gt4 i honestly don't know if i can bear to part with it .If i decide to keep my Gt4 to run alongside with my fictionous GT3 i might be tempted to spec my GT3 with PDK-s to complement my Gt4.
My ideal 991.2 would be a light 6 speed manual 4.0l GT3 engine 991.2T with rear seats and a fixed ducktail spoiler.

330 ish UK 991.1 GT3s.
Several new OPCs since 2013, 'manuel' option broadening appeal particularly following the sucess and demand for the GT4 and Spyder together with Porsches desire to capitalise on the GT branding strength whilst also retaining exclusivity and premiums would suggest around 500, although time will tell.
