£2m at a guess.

And why have they decided to photograph a delivery miles car in the middle of a flooded car park???

Unbelievable looking car, I'd guess 2.25m.

If I were the current owner of that car I would not be impressed them parking it in a giant puddle.

HR Owen recently sold Gordon Ramsey's Grigio LAF (Not the Aperta) for £2.4m, there seem to be a few more available now though although given this is delivery miles and Rosso I'd imagine a similar figure.

This is Tom Hartley's "thing".. it comes up every time they advertise a car. Clearly they're doing it for artistic effect but no idea who it is supposed to appeal to because everyone seems to have the same negative reaction.

Works for them.
They clearly have a profitable business that has survived decades of ups and downs in the car market.

If was built specially, with some kind of metal ramp underneath, so it looks good for photographic effect, the car is actually barely in the water.
Agree though, it looks naff..

Do you think the person that drives it there does so in wellies so they can get out without getting their feet wet or they are really really small and hide in the car's glove box whilst the photos are taken?

I suppose one has to suffer for art.

is that plaque saying the car is one of 499 or the first one of 499 - i can imagine that would make a difference if it were the latter

It has long been a Ferrari thing to write '1 of ***' on their cars. It does not denote that it is the first car thumbup

I'm sure that the tyres and undertray will manage to cope with a few drops of water. Gimmicky, yes. Bad, no.

I did once seen an XJ220 out in the back carpark of a Jaguar dealership. The car only had 205 miles on it, the owner had never driven it, and it only came out of its carcoon to be serviced. It was sat in the rain, uncovered, with bird sh*t across the whole car. I thought that was pretty bad.

Tom Hartley Snr yesterday posted on twitter the asking price is £2.8m, he claims it's the only one available in the UK for immediate delivery laugh

He does in fact say that every car they have is the 'only one' or the 'best one anywhere' etc, which is always funny when he has two of the same thing in a relatively short space of time!

For anyone who's on twitter Tom Snr is battling a disgruntled customer at the moment, the claimant alleges he was mis-sold a Ferrari that has a somewhat chequered history, the guy keeps setting up parody accounts and generally digging at Tom and the business, features 'The Lake' quite prominently though!

I was offered an F355 2 years ago at Tom Hartleys as they new I wanted one, I drove for over 2 hours to see it a couple of days later as arranged and found it was a knackered import from Ireland that they had no idea of the history, the wheels were kerbed and the interior all sticky which I know is standard stuff but describe to me in there showroom as the best of the best it was a shocker, then as I looked on rather puzzled Toms son announced that someone had purchased it over the phone and I'd now be offered a 2nd chance slot should the deal fall through, I wasn't happy with the experience and would never ever go back there, nice place but thats its. Also whilst I was there a local car dealer was after a Porsche turbo for a knock down price, in a heated debate with Tom's arrogant spoiled rich kid son he asked me for my opinion about the stone chips he was haggling about, I was asked to take a look and I had to admit I have never seen a car with more chips on it, it was peppered, even above the windscreen, hard to describe really, to this day I don't know how you could stone chip a car as much as that Porsche was and I realised right then I'd had a narrow escape!!!
There really is nothing glamorous about a second hand car dealer regardless of the price tag, there is no class divide, I'd even say the lower the car value the more morals the dealer has, bread and butter car turnover is a much quicker cycle so customers to return sooner!!

Don't they own all their stock? Thought that was their USP.

The big plus for me with Tom Hartley is that if they know you they will be welcoming and do a good deal, if they dont know you though they're not that fussed. Not great if you want to buy from them as a first time buyer but on the other hand most buy repeatedly from them.
As above they will let you know when they have certain cars in, and they certainly seem to buy cars with a group of people in mind who they know will buy.

I have heard reports of scruffy looking cars from them but this certainly has not been my experience of them.

confused

So essentially you're saying if you're a new customer then you're lucky if they give you the time of day, and you just have to put up with that treatment and strike a deal anyway, then next time (?) even though you were treated like st before you could go back to them and they'll be a bit nicer? That's a big plus? confused

You've nailed it though. I had the dubious pleasure of phoning Tom Hartley once about a F430 they had advertised. The guy I spoke to couldn't be more disinterested and dismissive of my perfectly reasonable questions, like it was a massive chore to him to sell the car. I wasn't in the mood to put up with that attitude and bought my car elsewhere. I guess I'm forever doomed to be treated like st by them for having the temerity to have not bought a car from them yet. frown

I guess i wrote that wrong, what i mean is that you read very different reports of both of them and they seem to fall into the im a customer and they're great camp or the I tried to be a customer and the car was shabby.

What is great about that is that as a customer who for some reason never got the cold shoulder from them, i could easily buy unseen from either of them and know that the car would be as expected.

Reading some reports from others i am surprised at the difference in experience and i dont doubt they are telling the truth but my experience has been wildly different.

as for the puddle, i believe but have not seen that this section can be flooded and drained at will, i would presume therefore that car is driven on, you get out, you flood take photo, drain and drive off again. No need for wellies
