Was as at a book signing with Ross and Adam Parr on Thursday.
Ross has a 5 year plan, which includes getting independent engine suppliers ie non manufacturers.
Also, tracks getting races based on the race they put on for the fans, rather than just how deep their pockets.
Very interesting evening.
As long as they look and sound like racing cars.... all will be well for me. Stopped visiting F1 races after uber disappointment of lost spectacle at Spa that year.

Hybrids suck.

Still watch 1 in 5 races on TV tho but ..... nah frown

The 2.4L V8's made a god awful noise. I don't mind the hybrids one bit by comparison.

If they ever go back to N/A they need to sound like the V10 and V12 era, free up peak rpm and go back to allowing a new engine and gearbox for every race. The money on these powertrains is all spent in development, the production of a fresh unit per race would be peanuts compared to the savings made limiting them to four powertrains per season.

I think its unlikely we see N/A engines back in F1 in the next decade at least.

The power and torque is there, is it just the noise that you miss?

As much as I miss the big V engines they have little to no relevance in the modern automotive world.

I'd like to see the move back to V8. Ideally I like to see it opened up even more and give manufacturers the choice between a V6T and NAV8 but I appreciate (especially in light of the comments above) that this is very unlikely to happen.

I don't really want to see a single engine manufacturer, it hasn't helped tyres by going single sourced and I'd be worried cars would become identi-kits.

If what Brawn says is correct about engine manufacturers, then there is likely to be a supermarket type of engine choice for teams.

The engines will be designed with strict limitations, probably with regards bhp, revs, packaging, materials and more.

I'm not sure that this will help the likes of Merc and Ferrari.

I wear Peltor ear defenders when working with N/A F1 engines, because I'm not stupid.

Pardon?

I can appreciate the need to wear ear plugs if you had to listen to that type of noise on a daily basis (as part of your work or a major hobby, perhaps). But if you only hear cars (or other loud engines, such as jet or rocket engines) a couple of times a year, then I don't think ear plugs are that necessary.

Your are very wrong.

Hearing damage occurs the moment you are exposed to levels the ear is not designed for.

There are also cumulative effects that increase the damage.

Your choice and risk.

Back in the days when I was Hanging around, Williams made it mandatory for all guests to the pit area to wear ear plugs . This was long before over zealous H&S

So far, no problems.

I was going to the old Coys Festival years ago and on the way in I was asked by the ticket seller if I wanted some complimentary ear plugs. I told him I actually wanted to hear the cars.

If I ever go to a rocket launch, I will most definitely NOT be wearing ear plugs.

But yours is the false argument. It's the "my old gran smoked 50 a day and lived to a hundred, so smoking is fine"

The long term damage to hearing caused by even single events is well proven. You may have been fortunate so far.

Blimey - I didn't know the odd airshow or motoring event could be so dangerous. I mustn't have seen all the "Danger to Hearing Signs" at these events.

You can still be ignorant to the fact and affected

It's very well know times on exposure due to certain levels, although not so much in accountancy eek

Don't worry, they are bringing out a hybrid version soon. Much quieter, slower at first and much more expensive.
