Wondering how best to tackle this? Not fussed about Left/centre/right by the TV, just wondering how I can get rear surround out of say Netflix movies. It's a Samsung Smart TV if that makes a difference.

Hate to break it to you, but you're going to need a 5.1 setup and an external receiver connected to your TV.

Looks like that'll do it. You do need Optical Output on your tv, but I don't think that'll be an issue. Make sure you get a "toslink" cable (from TV to soundbar) , I hate it when I get new gear and you want to set up only to find out you don't have the proper cable.

Edit: Saw this on the samsung site:

So this means that -if your tv supports it- you don't really need a cable. My experience with this sort of stuff usually is: it's nice, but if you can have a cable, make it wired.

I'm a believer in the wire also. Apart from rear speakers, obvs.....

In my opinion (now you know I'm about to disagree with you)
Your smart TV has crap speakers.
If you want to improve the sound of movies, just adding rear surround won't really help.

The easiest way is to get a sound bar - preferably one with a sub. There are a lot of LF effects that really build the experience of movies.

On a movie, most of the dialogue comes from the centre speaker channel, not having this makes for muttering speech problems.

Front speakers give the proper stereo split for placing the action.

And...in my opinion, rear speakers come last in the list.

I wont dispute much of that.
However in my situation we've got 3 young kids above the living room & so we rarely turn the levels & bass up that high. I'm just after a bit more atmosphere really
