Honda - another disaster ?

Lets be honest it can't get any worse, so taking a few risks is sensible. At the end of the day if McLaren don't start to do well this season and attract a title sponsor this year to start sponsoring from 2018 they are in serious trouble.
Why? They have managed the last two years. I don't think money is the problem at Mclaren. To be fair, they are customer of Honda and Honda's engine isn't a match for the competitionI'm expecting the same results as last year. Nothing more, nothing less.

Fundamentally they have made a big mistake with Honda. Yes Honda were outstanding 20 years ago but this time it is starting from scratch. 20 years ago they were already making great race engines. This time they were not. Engines are much more complex now and the level of engineering far higher.
They have been unlucky with the tokens idea but pre-testing blurb that sounds like it aims to manage (low) expectations is not encouraging. And saying they hope to be competitive with the lead car from 12 months ago is also less than suitable.
Its too early to write them off though and I suspect they'll do better than last year, but not a whole lot better. I do feel sorry for Alonso, he's too good to be in such a dog

Nope - they are in competition with ChevroletWith McLaren & Honda I will believe it when I see it. Over the last 4 or 5 years there has been too much hot air and not enough performance on track.... for example some of Ron & Eric's claims about their great chassis performance over the last 2 years have been anywhere from optimistic to completely laughable.

That is surely one of the most basic levels of design/r&d, but with the maelstrom of st that is Mclaren Honda nothing comes as a surprise.
Or they had to change to a radical new design due to new bodywork rules and a change in the Honda's engine design and it simply doesnt work in practice?Sometimes the simple things aren't as simple as an oil can...
