When Brawn decided to go with the Mercedes power unit, they had a choice of that of a Ferrari unit.
They chose Merc because it fitted better.
How different F1 could have been if it went the other way!
That was pre 1.6 engines though, I think the rule regarding a more standardised mounting point was amended for the new regs. They chose Merc because it fitted better.

Quite feasible to have a chassis that has the correct fixings, but which will not work as required when exposed to real world loads.
Just seen this

It now seems that they can't turn the wick up rather than wont turn it up.
Already working on a new engine for Monaco, though I guess they will still need a few of the current spec for the inevitable failures

Auto Sport are reporting that Honda has been in talks with other teams with a view to supplying them engines. Surely nobody would be mad enough to take them up on it?
That's why there's still only one team stupid enough... If Ron hadn't insisted on sole supply Honda wouldn't be in as much if mess now as they'd have had more development data.Trabi601 said:
JB is probably glad he took the option to walk away now... although, from what I can see, McLaren let the wrong driver go.
For a brand ambassador or whatever bs he supposed to be he was conspicuously absent. He needs to have a little fall off his mountain bike or something, to get a note from the doctor ready in case fred walks. Or maybe he'll do a werlien and be "not fit enough".

Sauber might
Indeed...especially if the boat anchors are going to be free.Honda could then dominate the back two rows of the grid
The grid is full and payments are made to the top 10 teams. So you are getting money either way.
If you are Sauber and have to pay for an engine, if Honda are committed and have a year to get the engine more competitive... if they are willing to significantly sweeten the deal (free engines? enhanced engineering support?) then is the question more "with more resources freed up, can we build a better overall car to compete and risk lower engine performance, and aim to beat McLaren/Haas"?
I was thinking Force India for Honda rather than Sauber. They have had to go to a full team name sponsor outside of Vijay Mallya's business empire for the first time and the boss might not be around too much to throw money at the team for a while - "Beleaguered businessman Vijay Mallya, who is facing charges of defrauding banks" http://www.deccanchronicle.com/sports/cricket/2703...
