Have there been changes to the wheelbase?
These things look comically long....
Few mm here and there, it would seem the designer misread them as inches. These things look comically long....

What is the reason for the 'tail' behind the airbox to the rear wing - it looks horrid on all of them. Is it an aero thing or some regulatory thing?
The "sharks fin" as the engineers are calling it, is to improve airflow over the rear wing during cornering I believe. Purely there for aerodynamic reasons. Agree they look awful. The long wheel base makes for a more stable cornering ability as the yaw in cornering as affected by the conservation of angular momentum.
Long wheel base makes 'em easier to control in the corners and easier to 'catch' when they start to drift/skid.
Think how quick a Kart is to spin around. I think they should shorten the wheelbase, as there would be a lot more leary sideways moments that the fans love. However, the safety people would say there would be more accidents when the drivers run out of talent.
Also I think the rear tyres should have a bigger rolling circumference and smaller ones at the front. That would make them look meaner. But then I love the F1's of the 70's so I'm biased.

Good God, swept back rear wing, wide tyres and the shark's fin - we used to call it A1 GP !!
Just fascinated that none of the pundits/experts (as far as I'm aware) predicted the return of the shark's fin solution - I'm fine with it on a Sportscar as it prevents an LMP car landing in your lap at Le Mans when you are enjoying your Merguez & Frites. As a soup it is tasty but has its critics - but on an F1 car - no thanks. Just wonder whether, on aesthetic grounds, the FIA might ban them - as they did X wings. Whilst they are at it they could stipulate that the Force India either runs with a paper bag over its nose or has a trip to a design shop for a rhinoplasty ???

I find it amazing that despite having pretty much uprecidented ingredients e.g. high technology, money, visual and aural potential, history and charisma, the F1 rule makers still consistently manage to procure such abominable looking cars combined with what will probably continue to be, on the whole, terminally dull events.

More Mercedes stuff, a video of those lines being airbrushed on by hand (!) . https://youtu.be/-nfzGHajgXkMeanwhile Williams have a white car with flat colour Martini stripes probably put on as vinyl graphics

Have a look at the old video on YT of the Toro Rosso bulls being painted, every engine cover is hand airbrushed.... I'd say Merc are hardly pushing the boat out when it comes to livery Meanwhile Williams have a white car with flat colour Martini stripes probably put on as vinyl graphics
After all the talk of 'more aggressive' looking cars I'm left totally underwhelmed.
2016 tubs with fat tyres, stuck-on afterthought dorsal fins, wider front wing and a big square undertray grafted on to try and reconcile the difference in dimensions between the old a new bits is what I am seeing essentially.
Am I wrong?
Like most people I am predicting more car damage as a result of these changes. More bits of carbon fibre scattered on track leading to safety car periods (and several standing restarts) and even less combative driving for fear of damaging the larger extremities.
Another shot-in-the-foot for F1.

Eurgh, horrible.I'm actually really disappointed with the way these cars look. I know they'll be fast they won't be so fast that we can't see their various bulges, bumps and appendages. Somebody should've seen the increase in wheelbase coming, wheelbase to track is an important ratio in determining rotational stability (or something).
They are taking their official launch lightly as their twitter feed is posting photos from the shakedown.

I think that's called confidence.
