That looks pretty bad ass, just needs more yellow and less black imo. They had the best paint job by far last year.

Come the first test they'll look completely different anyway, why let out all your secrets so early, even liveries will be different
I used to think that was the case -but then the first test is days away and all will be on show then anyway - and clearly wherever there is clever aero the teams are hiding it with black / matt black / lighting on the back of these two launches.
Also I suspect - given Saubers evident lack of cash that they simply cannot afford to make 'pretend aero' - so Im not sure there will be too much deviation from the launch version although the wings - (due to pace of development) may well be earlier versions they have already made for testing purposes - but dont show the ultimate version.
Or am I massively wrong? Certailnly in the last few years when regs changed little you could get away with what is effectively a 'livery launch' but when it all has changed so much? Is there any benefit in leaving things till the last possible second to show your hand?

Two average looking cars totally devoid of any sponsors they have to resort to plastering their own names all over the car...

I can see six sponsors on the Renault; seven if you count the Renault car company themselves who obviously stand to gain from the advertising.

The Sauber does look very bare though. frown

I don't know about anyone else but I just can't be arsed with F1 anymore? Top 10 reasons off the top of my head:

1) Lack of competition
2) Dreadful uninspiring engines/sountrack
3) Lift and coast
4) Comedy tyre rules
5) Dull soulless car park circuits
6) Petty inconsistent stewarding
7) Ingenuity discouraged
8) Strangling regulations/engine tokens
9) Boring puppet drivers
10) Only half the races shown live on terrestrial tv (soon to be zero!)

I'm seriously hoping Liberty can sort it out although sadly I think point number 10 is already a done deal?

I know for a fact one of the seven on the car is not paying a penny for it. Renault think it is easier to sell space that is already 'sold' and somebody at Enstone had a chat with a friend at said company.

1) 2017 rules have been introduced to let other teams catch Merc
2) If you ignore all the whingers, the engines have plenty of character and make all sorts of weird and funky noises, yes they are quieter than a v10 doing eleventy billion RPM, but that doesn't make them bad
3) In part due to the tyres, which have been totally reworked, the previous brief/theory on their construction and compounds is gone this year
4) See above,
5) Last car park circuit was Vegas in 1982
6) FIA need a good kick up the arse
7) Disagree, its (at least in part) how every dominant team becomes dominant. Sure, some stuff gets banned, but that just spurs more development and innovation
8) Gone
9) And yet when a driver like Hamilton does show some character / personality he gets shot down in flames. Go read all the crap in the thread here. Can't win.
10) Thank BBC for that. Its currently a done deal but LM and Murdoch have history. Wouldn't be surprised to see the deal changed, probably to allow LM to stream coverage over the net

I like it, very Buzzin' Hornets-esq colour scheme but a bit weird to see the Castrol sponsor logo and not Elf on a Renault.

Also NSF tyre is making my teeth itch.

Why do some people keep coming back to the f1 forum to tell us it's crap and they're not interested?

You are clearly interested. That's why you went out of your geeky way to look at the car launches, instead of waiting for Melbourne like normal people do. Pretending you're not interested to interested people doesn't make you some sort of sporting fonz, it makes you boring as fk.

To;Dr? Cheer up or gtfo.

I just can't get over how big and unwieldy they look.

The cars were already far, far too long and thin, I thought the new regulations would eliminate some of the narrowness from the look but instead they just look like giant messes.

Understandable for packaging reasons with the power units and hybrid systems but still.

Adding the terrible noses and the awful fins to the mess and this year is gonna be extremely ugly. Not quite as ugly as 2009 but still, horrible.

People bang on and on about the 2007/8 cars being awful to look at because of the aero packages but at least they were somewhat in proportion and had some curves. These cars are just as bad aero-wise but don't have the neatness to the proportions or the curves of the 2008 cars.

Renault are being bullish about their new engine. Let's hope they're right!

I can't help but think Honda are going to have another year at the back of the engine race, meaning if Renault don't get the performance/reliability right, you've only got Ferrari to challenge Mercedes.

Just on my way home from Barcelona.

I was testing a few cars whilst the teams were setting up in the paddock.

Based on the number of trucks Renault have been seriously splashing the cash!
