Did anyone attend the marshals training day at Croft on Sat 25th?

I had registered to go through DDMC (wasn't on BMMC site) and chased up a week prior as I had not heard anything.
I was told information was yet to be sent out. I chased up again with my Croft contact two days prior and was told it was a BARC event (I am BMMC/DDMC) he didn't really know anything but maybe turn up for around 9am.

I decided not to go as it's a fair drive and a fair commitment without any information whatsoever from the organisers.

Did it go ahead? Did others get info posted out? Is it because i'm BMMC I have not been included?

New to marshalling so wondering if I have missed a trick. I am a bit disappointed after rushing to get Oranges sorted for the day to have missed out.

Thanks

It's a bit of a long trip for you, but if you're quick you can apply for the Oulton Park training day - applications must be in by tomorrow!

Easiest way to do it is to use this form:

I had done one at Cadwell back in November with BMMC (which was really well organised) and am suitably 'refreshed'. Thanks for the tip though.

As most of my marshalling will be at Croft, I thought it would be good to do their day.
I have heard of some 'goings on' with Croft management so wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Anybody else? Thought there would be more marshals on here.

I'm putting it down to not being a BARC member. Hopefully I'll find out when I'm next up there for the Sprint event.

Shame really as if it was a good day I'd have likely joined them. After this experience I'm put off.

Rick please don't be put off. These things happen sometimes.

There is a training day at Harewood hillclimb on Sunday if you fancy something a bit different. There will be fire training session on the day.

Hi,

That's put off joining BARC, not marshalingsmile

I've never been to the Harewood event before but have put my name down for the 19th. Closest event to me in York so if it's good, I will hopefully get there again.

Im finding it a bit odd too. I went to a taster day, was keen so signed up. Got my pack through on the 20th Jan, which allowed me to see the training days...the last local one was 4 days from then. Too soon...

so, I dont have any training and the information seems to be spread between normal post, website (whcih I can now log on, at least), a facebook page and a private facebook page which everyone mentions but you need to be invited to join.

Don't feel you have to do a training day before you start to marshal.

I started well before going on a BMMC training day. You will need to have done the fire training before getting accredited and moving up from being a trainee but I understand it's expected that you do it a minimum of once every 2 years after that.

BMMC and the MSA. But I need to join somewhere else if I want to pit lane marshal. Its very confusing...

williamp whoever told you that ( about pit lane marshals) is wrong. It may be for certain meetings at certain circuits a club may choose to use their own club members in the pit lane. But that is very different to having to be in a certain club to do pit lane.

Same organisations as me then.

I usually sign up through the BMMC site or record I am attending if am marshaling an event if I have spoken to the club direct, as that way BMMC covers the insurance if there was an issue.

Not looked into Pit Marshaling but I thought that was under the same certification? It's just the rally marshal you need to do an online test which tbh anybody with basic safety sense could answer.

I am pit marshalling pretty much exclusively for now, though expect to do a little track and assembly at some point. I am a BMMC/MSA member and that's it.

If you are volunteering direct with the circuit or club, then you need to speak to the club for pits as they will run the pit area. If you are volunteering via the BMMC's marshals.org.uk website then you can usually volunteer for pits, track etc. in the same place, though I've noticed they sometimes give the details for the pit marshals' contact for that event so you can get in contact with them.

You don't actually need to be a member of anything to marshal, but membership of the BMMC will get you access to training, accreditation, subsidised protective clothing and insurance. Of course the bigger events only want experienced marshals, so you'll need an accreditation etc. to do them.

You could also be a member of the circuit or club marshals association too. I can't see that it gets you any benefits unless you particularly want to support that club or circuit. Oh and the Silverstone marshals get snazzy orange and black suits so look different.

Personally, I've enjoyed Donington and particularly the BRSCC so I am especially looking at their stuff for now, but I will probably move around a bit.

Sorry about that, the BARC Officials Secretary was off sick for a few weeks and so the Croft info was a bit hit and miss. It was certainly nothing to do with you not being a BARC member, all are welcome at the training days that we run.

As was pointed out, you don't have to be a member of any club at all to Marshal, and certainly not to work in the pit lane.

Ahh thanks for the update. Been asking around but good to know the reason.

Hope the organiser is better and look forward to supporting some more BARC events in future, been at Harewood today smile
