Yep..that's almost 2 secs faster than last years testing.

And 0.3 seconds slower in the last sector than his PB on soft tyres. A lot more to come yet
Indeed. They have also completed 3.5 grand prix distances as well already!

Mercedes are looking impressive.

But compared to last year, where Ferrari went through piles of soft tyres, they are sticking to the mediums.

They are certainly keeping their cards close to their chest for now. But they have decent enough pace and are racking up the laps pretty painlessly.

They have certainly closed the gap if nothing else.
And reliable so far, so they can get through the whole testing program to correlate against their models. A good sign.
IIRC Ferrari reliability in testing has never been problematic in the hybrid era. Even in 2014 the Ferraris were similarly reliable to the Mercedes.

I'm not sure why people were "worried" that McLaren would only have 8 engine changes throughout the year for having upgrades (4 per car). Seeing as they had a dodgy engine previously, and then said they took a big risk for this year it seems they might be able to have upgrades on the new engine they will need for each session they take part in.

Is it time for someone to come along and say 'The T-Wings are banned..end of discussion'?

Now we're seeing double wings on the merc.

For the sake of not having stupid looking cars again, should they just get rid. Issue a clarification, close the loop hole. No races run, everyone in the same boat to make changes.

Honda.....

The Ross Brawn / Adam Parr book is well worth a read and RB mentions Honda as being resolutely against bringing in outside expertise. They have this corporate mentality that skills must come from within. Toyota had the same thinking.

Great if that all comes together but as we saw with Toyota in F1, even with limitless budgets, it never does.

Yes, Newey ever pointed out that the gain from them is marginal. They're just ugly and provide very little benefit so get rid.

Ross Brawn mentioned on the Motorsport podcast a while ago that the engine department just refused to listen to the design department and vice versa, makes you wonder if it's a similar situation at Mclaren now?

Six laps into Lance Stroll's F1 career and he has had a spin which has ended Williams' running for today.

I was ridiculed on some other threads by suggesting Williams would be worth watching due to the Bottas / Merc deal. So far I think even though early days it's looking like a good car, I am confident I could be proved right.
All it would take is access to some of Merc data or better customer Merc engine etc.

Even at this very early stage it is looking like 2016 all over again.

Now now...you were ridiculed saying that Williams would come second due to Lance Stroll and his Dads millions. I've even got a bet with you giving you Williams in the Top 3.

They were always going to be strong, just look at the size of the organisation.

Palmer's first timed lap on the mediums is just 0.6s off Vandorne's best so far on the softs.

I didn't 'ridicule' you, but I do disagree- my reasons adequately explained in another thread.

I think people were questioning the logic of 'Stroll snr wouldn't want the car to be slow' as a bit woolly as to how it would affect the development of the car by his own force of will?

Nope I said actually that Merc possibly will help Williams as part of the Bottas deal firstly and secondly yes Stroll's Daddy stuffing 20 mill into the team won't hurt.

Williams top 3 team yes... so far even though early..they are.
