Ive never been a huge fan of Nando but I'm starting to feel sorry for him. And it's a shame for the sport that a top driver like him is going to spend another season trundling around at the back or sat in the garage.

Felt similar, til I recalled it's his poor judgement on drives that put him in this position.. And his behaviour at mclaren first time - still unfortunate however.

Mercedes though - with respect and on balance, he hasnt earnt.

Maybe he should retire.

ncr - I would argue that his performances in Ferrari and McLaren over the past years could well justify it.

Of all the drivers in the field, it is only him and Hamilton that can be relied on to 'over achieve' regularly. Maybe Ricciardo, more likely in a couple more years though, along with Max Verstappen (providing his current trajectory remains).

call me an optimist but I don't believe either of the McLaren drivers have completed anything close to a representative lap yet. I'm looking forward to seeing them go for it for a few laps.

He was on normal softs in fairness - I think there are still a lot of question marks over the McLaren. It's all a little too familiar so far.

What we really need to see now is a full race simulation from Hamilton and one from Ferrari.

Ferrari seem to be sticking doggedly to a plan - rather than shooting at headline grabbing times like last year. I'm really quite optimistic they could make a real challenge this year

Never been the greatest Mclaren supporter but I sincerely hope they have a car that will allow them to be in the mix with the top 3 teams. We're long overdue watching Alonso getting in amongst the front runners - always entertaining.

Sauber not doing terribly either with Ericsson third fastest today with a 1:22.6

Anyone see his comments on sky last night - no regrets at all apparently... if hes not lying he's the biggest fraud to ever grace the sport. I mean, even if hes completely happy and settled and feels hes done what he wants, no racer would not have a pang of regret on some level at seeing the car going out and not being a part of it. It must be like seeing an ex girlfriend you shared some great times with with a new guy. Just weird.

If he had no regrets....he wouldn't even be there. You come back and hang around the pits because you miss some element of it.

Or he's been racing for long enough and now he's achieved his goal he can finally say he's had enough? There aren't many drivers who seem to regret not being in the car once they've retired. retirement is their choice after all... That doesn't allow anyone to still have a pop at Nico even though he's not racing anymore.

Is it ever as black and white as that? Having regrets or missing aspects of the sport doesnt mean you'd change your decision, the two can co-exist. Actually not having at least a few regrets youre happy to admit is the weird option, it says to me he's covering something.

Although maybe its just nico being the nico we all know and love and trying to hard all the time with a null personality
