Gary Anderson implying on Autosport commentary that tyre deg is still very much a factor, suggesting that Pirelli have not succeeded in significantly toughening up their tyres. This is a bad thing.
But not a surprise?
As it's also unsurprising that people on here are making predictions for the season after a few hours shakedown. Again.

Mercedes might turn it up to 6 this afternoon...
This, nobody is running anywhere near full tilt yet, they are barely beating the times from last years test. I'd imagine if Sauber slapped on a set of softs, ran it on fumes and went flat out they'd blow that time out of the water. I reckon we're about 4 seconds off true pace at the moment. Mercedes do look ominously confident though.REALIST123 said:

There's going to be teething issues. Some of these cars were literally bolted together just in time for their launch.
Learnt over the years it's also difficult trying to actually read the form with so many unknown variables such as sand bagging, fuel levels, engines turned down etc.
It's obviously better if your favourite team is doing laps and up the front of the timing sheets though.

Yeah..... bit early for predicting form on the morning of day 1!

Especially given most teams will make huge changes to the cars over the next few weeks. There's going to be teething issues. Some of these cars were literally bolted together just in time for their launch.

All true, but if it ends with Merc up top and say Sauber at the bottom then i doubt that would swap. Even in cruise mode Merc will be comfortable, in fact they could do a season in cruise mode and still clear up.
True. Not like, say 2009 where Brawn didn't show to the first test and then...I was saying the opposite. Hence me saying "True".
2009 was an exception.

Far too early to predict.
Look at England V Italy at the Rugby. It was going to be a white wash yet Italy were leading at half time.
Shame the Italians can't kick
LCFC won the Premeirship and this season are back where they belong. Sadly this doesn't happen once a motor is attached and people are designing the main part of the sport, the car.Look at England V Italy at the Rugby. It was going to be a white wash yet Italy were leading at half time.

Not a cat in hell's chance that in 2017 any team bar Merc Ferrari and RBR will win the WCC and in truth I'd stake my claim that no one will beat Merc to the WCC.
It's all relative, if Merc went out full of fuel and were clearly cruising and Sauber went out on fumes and were ringing it's neck and Sauber came above Merc in timing you'd still clearly know that Merc were better. Its not hard to work out who the best will be this coming season.
Pretending it will not be so is fine but don't expect everyone to want to play along with that.
Motorsport isn't really the place to find shocks for the most part, certainly not at the professional level. I don't think we expect any giant killing scenario's.

I was testing a few F1 cars there last week, the tyres were being destroyed much sooner than normal. The track is seriously green and abrasive at the moment. I'd give it a few days running before it gives any useful indication of tyre wear once some rubber is down.tommunster10 said:

It never really occurred to me but even the Merc is incredibly light on sponsorship. I guess with a big title sponsor they don't need it, but only a clothing and technical partner are otherwise visible in that photo.PhillipM said:
Along with an air outlet running through it.
All the other fins are a flat solid panel aren't they? Gary Anderson on Autosport is saying there's a maximum thickness allowed for the fin, and Mercedes are using that to make it hollow as an air outlet for something under there.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
