All the other fins are a flat solid panel aren't they? Gary Anderson on Autosport is saying there's a maximum thickness allowed for the fin, and Mercedes are using that to make it hollow as an air outlet for something under there.
Might be some kind of air intake to increasing wading depth if they have to drive through floods? A bit like this:FourWheelDrift said:
Can't wait for this to be modelled as a kids toy. Will make a great bottle opener.MiniMan64 said:

LCFC won the Premeirship and this season are back where they belong. Sadly this doesn't happen once a motor is attached and people are designing the main part of the sport, the car.
Not a cat in hell's chance that in 2017 any team bar Merc Ferrari and RBR will win the WCC and in truth I'd stake my claim that no one will beat Merc to the WCC.
It's all relative, if Merc went out full of fuel and were clearly cruising and Sauber went out on fumes and were ringing it's neck and Sauber came above Merc in timing you'd still clearly know that Merc were better. Its not hard to work out who the best will be this coming season.
Pretending it will not be so is fine but don't expect everyone to want to play along with that.
Motorsport isn't really the place to find shocks for the most part, certainly not at the professional level. I don't think we expect any giant killing scenario's.
No I totally agree that no other team apart from Ferrari or Red Bull will be able to challenge Mercedes for this years crown but if both can challenge and make life uncomfortable for the Mercedes team then at least the new rules have helped the situation. Not a cat in hell's chance that in 2017 any team bar Merc Ferrari and RBR will win the WCC and in truth I'd stake my claim that no one will beat Merc to the WCC.

The tyres are going to be a big feature and perhaps whoever is better on them for longer runs could make a huge difference as it is looking like they are not going to last.
Whatever the case if Mercedes yet again romp ahead in 2017 then the sport itself will only lose more fans and the new owners will have a massive headache.

If only it was not all true
Well so far it looks like McHonda are going to once again promise big and fall flat on their face.
The pace gap between Ferrari and Mercedes looks promisingly close but then I seem to recall that Ferrari were not far off the pace in testing last year. Plus Ferrari seem to have a habit of being faster in practice conditions than they are when it actually matters.
I don't mind the shark fins... I thought the whole point of the regulation change was to bring a bit of variety back into the sport but now I have just read that Horner is already on about getting them banned for 2018!
