Sad to hear that the great John Surtees passed away today.

The loss of a gentleman and a legend.

Best wishes to his family.

legend the sport and great charity campaigner.

Always wanted to meet him, never get the chance now.

Shame. But a life well lived. He'll get to see Henry now.

Met him very fleetingly last year at Goodwood.

Should have been knighted years ago.

RIP.

Agreed, I don't know why they have never knighted him.

Really enjoyed the talks he did at Autosport a couple of years ago. Doubt anyone will ever manage the motorcycle & F1 world championships ever again. RIP.

The word legend is tossed around all too easily these days, but John Surtees certainly qualifies. A sad day for both the two and four wheeled motorsport fraternities.

A legend. I shook hands with him at Goodwood and he was as charming as can be.

Rest in Peace, sir.

Met him a few times around the time Henry was starting in karts at Buckmore. Have a great picture of him presenting my son with a trophy for that year's Championship.

A genuinely nice guy, not full of it like some. A legend.

Big John was genuinely one of my hero's (and I don't have many). Such a talent and force of nature and, by all accounts, a good man.

I still remember when he drove the green David Piper Ferrari LM at one of the early Revivals. Even after a lifetime spent at motorsport events it was revelatory - such balance, elegance, and sheer bloody pace!

A drink tonight thinking of MVAgusta's, Vincents, Lola's and that lovely little (title-winning)Ferrari...

Some of the interviews he did on Sky still showed a genuine love and enthusiasm for motorsport despite the tragedy it brought into his life.

RIP Mr Surtees.
