I reckon mclaren will be more competitive than ppl think

They've had 2 weeks of working flat out on sorting the issues! 2 weeks is a long time in the F1 world
So is 3 years.

It hasn't been enough.
Quite.

I'm an optimistic person and I've stopped making excuses for them!

As a McLaren fan I have to have something to look forward to...

My prediction:

1)VET
2)HAM
3)RAI

And the Macca's to last the race distance but finishing last and second last.

After being near the circuit this morning and hearing a free do some laps I was already getting very excited for the race. I came home and nearly bought tickets but couldn't decide so thought I would wait until this evening. Then at work I won an internal competition for corporate box seats for Saturday. I am beyond excited, this will be my fist time getting to see it and I'm like a kid at christmas. Yes this will be just for qualifying but I'm still just as excited.....I genuinely don't remember the last time I was this excited biggrin

Without going through all these pages, have CH4 said yet what time their highlights prog will be on? (I don't do sky etc. )
Doesn't seem to say on their home page yet. My alternative is go to my tennis club but if it's lights out at six.. or seven?

Congratulations.... lovely to hear that the prize has gone to someone who is actually a fan.
Often these corporate things are filled with people who have no knowledge or, or interest in racing.

Well I'm now actually excited about the season starting! Fortunately I'm off work tomorrow so tonight I shall mostly be up late watching the F1 practice. I have cursed Ferrari though now, I've had a fiver each way on both drivers.

I'm not off work but have planned my evening / night around the F1, culminating in going to the office when FP2 finishes in order that I can leave early and get some decent sleep Friday evening before getting up for FP3

I may be a weirdo but I much prefer coverage at these kind of times than the middle of the afternoon, it's much less disruptive.

yes I am optimistic that McLaren will improve dramatically in season but who other than Sauber and HAAS are they likely to beat? The works Renault entry will be significantly improved so they and the rest should surely have a decent chance of scoring championship points with at least one car from the get go?
Depends how quickly McLaren can get Mercedes engines biggrin

I kind of agree, it's nice to watch the F1 and then still have the rest of your day to go and do whatever.

McLaren were sandbagging at Barcelona and will lock out the front row & take an easy win this weekend.
Worth a fiver down the bookies, surely.

Perhaps its the colour of the car or the shape of the nose (which is better than it looked from the press photos) but... I read the word above Pirelli wrong at first glance.

Is there any firm news yet about the Merc and Red Bull suspension. There's one report on the internet that they've had to remove their trick setup.

Just look at the amount of stuff going on there....
Check the fully built view of this area!

Having so many elements on here tells me that there's quite a bit of reduncancy in the performance of these parts. Drawback would be getting all of these intricate pieces to work in concert on track...but the fact that it's on the car shows how well their factory/windtunnel models are correlating with the track data. Impressive.

The Williams looks positively stone age in comparison

The Ferrari is more complex than Williams, simpler than the Merc but obviously it's effective.

The expression, 'built like a tank' comes to mind...

The Ferrari has the most intricate diffuser of the lot. It's beautiful.

McLaren's floor close to the rear tyres had quite a bit of complexity last year but it looks very simple now.

Compared to the Williams car:

^Have not seen this on any other car...the metal edges to the floor close to the tyres.
