Good to see F1 cars hurtling around on the screen again The Toro Rosso looks even better than it did in press release, the Hass too. On the other hand, the pink on that Force India looks awful, at least on TV. Really washed out and bland, like a sun faded Corsa from the 90's. Had it been more vibrant or glossy, it would look great.
I thought the cars looked a bit flat and wide, as if someone has jumped on them like Mario. Saying that, I was watching on a stream. Here is a screenshot from my phone of what it looks like:You can clearly see the Sauber on the right. This was onboard from Hamilton's car.

Cars are looking good but I`m still not convinced that will make good racing, we`ll find out on Sunday but I just can`t see them being able to follow close enough.
They do look terrific in the quick corners. But I just don't believe they will be able to follow closely enough to provide more overtaking. I understand more down force is coming from the floor / diffuser which should be a little less sensitive to turbulent air, but that is only really true if you're comparing to a car creating the same down-force from wings. I suspect the higher down-force and higher speed these cars will carry compared to last year will mean even with a slightly reduced sensitivity to turbulent air they will struggle to follow as closely... Could be wrong, hope I am.... But I'm going to enjoy the spectacle of these cars anyway.DanielSan said:
It's now a given there'll be even less overtaking at Monaco with the cars being wider and longer surely? And there's never much anyway.
To me, Monaco is a bit like a rally stage. It would be better used as a single car time trial.I enjoy qualifying there. The races are a bit pointless now though, unless someone messes up a pit stop.

Monaco should be a race that's wet from start to finish, it always becomes a great race then.I enjoy qualifying there. The races are a bit pointless now though, unless someone messes up a pit stop.

to one half of the track.
The cars may look fast, but so far they haven't really gone any faster than qually last year. I appreciate there's more to come, but I think most teams are running with the engine turned down (and running fewer laps - I'd like to see the total lap count) to preserve the engines. I know they're expensive pieces of kit, but I'd much rather see them pushing it in practice than running economy mode. The cost is surely in the development, not in producing another handful. Why not have 5 engines that are for practice only, and then limit them to 3 for Q and race throughout the season? It's going to keep the teams busy, changing engines, for sure, but this is F1 and that's not exactly beyond the bounds of possibility.
As to writing Bottas off. He's been in the car for 2 sessions, plus 4 days of testing. He'll do fine, even if he doesn't beat Lewis over the course of a season. That said, it may be that the most exciting part of this season is watching for the driver moves. I don't think I've ever seen a situation where the best 4 drivers (Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, Ricciardo, not necessarily in that order) all have contracts ending at the same time.
