I watched the MotoGP practice too, it was dull as dishwater.

MotoGP is great for racing, but practice, Yawnnnnn

Jumping onto a moped is incredible? Are you mental?
How was it dull? It was ace two rookies up the sharp end and Loris Baz finding 2 secs from nowhere suddenly on the Ducati, It was awesome. But, but..you didn't really watch it did you...?
Oh and if Lewis's car broke down and he rushed to a marshall and rode back on his moped to the pits like a scolded cat, i'm sure his fans would be creaming themselves, you joyless cretin.
And we're on the newkie brown already rolleyes

Here you go;

I spent far too many hours in the early ninties playing 'Formula One Grand Prix' on my super-slow 386SX, although it didn't even have the computing power to enable the tarmac rendering! Frustratingly (or not) you could always win with a backmarker car as there was no performance cap, at least Lotus won loads on my PC! The pedant in me thinks that's a Lotus type 101 or 102 on the cover.
Ahhh Microprose. I used to love their games. I remember getting Gunship 2000 after reading the huge manual I could've probably flown the real thing.
Off topic, but I had Gunship 2000 too, along with Grand Prix. I remember playing the multiplayer in GP which actually meant each person doing a single player stint every so often. Your car would be computer driven in-between turns.

Gunship 2000 with that manual was amazing.

The cars may look fast, but so far they haven't really gone any faster than qually last year.
Fastest time in FP3 last year was a 1:25.something, so I think Q3 times will be close to, or sub 1:20, so ~ 3 seconds faster than last year.
I don't think they're going to be sub-1:20. If pole is sub 1:21 I'll be a bit surprised. I think only Lewis can do that based on today's running. Maybe the new wider profile tyres are impacting top speed, which may, in turn, mean there's a better slipstream. That should help overtaking (he says, clutching straws).

Mind you, they could all be running their engines at 80% ...

i seem to remember the conclusion we came to was he has german ancestry and regards this forum and mainly british so argues the toss at every given chance as revenge for us bombing his granny tank

P.S. What do you think of Stroll's position in the Williams team?
Why would you do it?

Well, quite clearly Stroll got there on merit after his winning of the championship, so it's good to point that out to recognise what a good driver he is.

I did a quick analysis of the long runs on the Ultra soft tyres in FP2. Cleaned up the noise and took into account the actual length of the stint.

Bottas' runs were a bit inconsistent showing he's still got to get on top of the tyres but the fundamental pace is there.

TR looking strong. Raikkonen's run wasn't far off the Mercs considering the deg on Hamilton/Bottas' runs were higher. If Williams/Red Bull don't get their act together, it looks like Force India/Toro Rosso are fighting at the top of the midfield. Await with interest if Red Bull can dial the car in tomorrow and get in the mix, else they are going to be beat by TR. Also, lets wait till the end of qualifying/race before writing off the season.

Clear 1-stop, although I was a bit baffled why Pirelli were predicting a 2-stop before a wheel had turned. Pirelli sometimes look amateurish with their predictions.

Big Al.

Jack it in you two! keep the thread on topic or you'll both be looking for another thread to post on.

No more warnings......

Oh, if the front runners are doing high 27s in the first stint as indicated by the long runs, I think we'll be looking at the fastest lap in the mid to high 25s--right with the 2005-2007 pace. This is fantastic!

Track evolution tomorrow might substantially improve the quali pace too.

You say Kimi looks close to Mercedes considering the deg - but it looks like using Hamilton's times it's around 1 second a lap quicker until around lap 15-19 or so. So that's a big lead to have gained. Add in increased tyre wear for Kimi due to following the Mercedes then he will be even further behind (presuming he qualifies behind the Mercedes as it looks like will be the case).

Agreed, I think Bottas would be in front of Kimi too provided he could be more a bit more consistent.

True, Hamilton is quicker on that plot but at a higher deg rate. It also looks to me like Kimi was not pushing on the tyres, which makes it difficult to get a read on the 'true' pace. By playing around with the deg rate of his stint, it is possible to determine what lap times he could do at a comparable deg rate to Hamilton. And here, it is close. Also I've seen reports that Ferrari /RB haven't quite dialled their cars in...would explain the long runs somewhat. Not definitive, but FP3 should yield some answers..

TL;DR - pay tv isn't going away but they do appreciate free to air can have a value and even where pay tv continues they may offer some sort of digital service. Sounds quite pragmatic, lets see if they follow it through.

Bad news for VJ, looks like he will be extradited to India: http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-uk-clears-ind...

This is interesting, Scarbs noticed quite a lot of weight being put in the front wing of the Renault: https://twitter.com/ScarbsTech/status/845089466112...
