That's some great analysis there...but the scary thing is Lewis isn't pushing anywhere near as hard as Seb but still 3 tenths clear.
Really interesting to see the different styles though, Lewis preferring to slow things down earlier and get on the throttle earlier, whereas Seb goes in later and hotter but slower coming out.
As another poster said, not sure Lewis wasn't totally on it and I'm wondering if his driving style is somewhat demanded by the car itself? The Ferrari is a much shorter car compared to the Merc (RB shorter than the Ferrari)...Really interesting to see the different styles though, Lewis preferring to slow things down earlier and get on the throttle earlier, whereas Seb goes in later and hotter but slower coming out.

Let us not forget as well now Ecclestone has vacated F1 we are seeing many more F1 video clips online both official and non-official that are not taken down. Liberty seem to understand the meaning of free advertising marketing.
Indeed. Breath of fresh air, I reckon. Although I reserve judgement on just how far they are going to go with it. I'm sure we don't want to see a Formula-E style "fanboost" or other such Social Media gimmicks.

- on the disclaimer that the acid test is tomorrow
As I said, happy to be proved wrong, and happy to admit it.
But as with testing....I don't think I have yet.

Agreed. Ted's doing too much of the bumbling twit act. Or perhaps it's not an act....
+1I switch off Notebook now. He's getting dangerously close to becoming a total tw^t

Horses for courses. I love the notebook, a general ramble about quali or race. Bit much to call him a total tt when you've (probably) never had to put together a piece like that at short notice.
I generally enjoy notebook. I just like seeing activity behind the scenes.I sometimes think the confused ramblings are a little pre meditated though, like he's decided it is a bit of a likable trademark and pushes it a bit hard. The Aldo Costa thing being a good example. You do kind of get the impression everyone thinks he's a total d!@k when they see him approaching and find it a bit cringy when they have to get involved with him.
Mumbling some random comment which the person 10ft away couldn't have possibly heard, but then looking at them for a response, so they look confused and he goes off mumbling about embarrassing them or going deeper into how silly he is rambling on.
His arrogance towards knowledgable fans at last years testing notebook was a bit annoying.
I do enjoy notebook, honest! There is a point though I just want someone really informed to deliver an accurate and informed opinion without a bit of a clown act.

I think an emerging theme is going to become how these new cars are seemingly unsalvageable once they begin to spin (Danny Ric today, JP and others previously) , consensus seems to be that the shark's fin is the major contributory factor to this. Seems ironic given the fact that they were introduced in the WEC to enhance stability and to prevent low level flight.
Aesthetics is one thing, driver safety another, what's the money on an FIA in-season ban ?? 1969 all over again..
Its not aero causing that issue.Aesthetics is one thing, driver safety another, what's the money on an FIA in-season ban ?? 1969 all over again..
Its the tyre slip angle working range. The new tyres appear to have a smaller operating window on slip angle, so once you go over the tyre slip angle limit you lose grip rapidly.
In the good old days of crossply tyres, the slip angle range was very large, so you could see lots of sideways driving. Radial tyres have a smaller working range due to the tyre construction, it looks like these new wider tyres have a much smaller range than the previous generation.
Pirelli may have to rethink the tyre construction or we may see a lot more of these crashes where a relatively small slide isn't catchable.
Morning all.

Where has this 8G cornering come from. I thought it was more like 5 and a bit
They were hitting 5G peaks at some corners last year. At some corners they are anywhere from 20 - 40 km/h faster this year. Grosjean claimed the 8G peaks after qualifying.https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/monster-f1-cars...
Morning all! Fingers crossed for a good race. Shame about Ricciardo
I'm hoping this is when we all realised that the McLaren has been sandbagging, even in qually and goes on to a double-podium finish.
In other news, even though it's still dark outside, I've just seen a pig fly past my house!
