Sadly this was exactly what many drivers and team personnel said would be the case before they even drove the new cars frown

I`m not writing off the season after just one race on a street circuit. It`s never been the best for overtaking anyway although I can see many races ending up one stoppers with the new tyres. Give it a few months and PH will be full of people calling for tyres that degrade quicker... laugh

Max looked to be wringing the neck of that RedBull from the onboard footage ! Great to watch driving
This was brawns exact point about the non champ races trialling out different ideas before committing to them. Cant happen soon enough.

Although like said street circuit... thinking about it, having this track as the season openers a pretty dumb idea - everyone arrives/switches on full of expectation for the new season/rules, you think they'd start with a track more likely to guarantee a bit more excitement.

Back to pit stop passing I'm afraid on at least 2/3rds of the circuits on the calendar.

You mess up your strategy like they did today and you'll lose the win.
Yes, I have a suspicion that given the difficulty in passing there will be very few passes on track. People comment about Hamilton and Verstappen, but you also saw it with Vettel and Hamilton for example.

I don't really see how you can come to that conclusion, Bottas was slower on the ultra softs and Hamilton never got a chance to fully exploit the soft when new because he was tucked up behind Max, he then took some time to pick up the pace, I don't know if that was him or the tyres going through a graining stage after being in Max's dirty air. Once Lewis got up to speed the only time Bottas gained was through traffic.

Suggesting that Bottas will beat Hamilton in the WDC is a bit strong on that evidence.
Because Bottas finished 1.3 seconds behind Hamilton at the end of the race. He has been at Mercedes for around 3 months, Hamilton is heading into his 5th year with the team and knows them and the car inside out. It won't be a surprise if Hamilton beats Bottas over the season, but I just reckon Bottas will edge it, especially mentally when he starts finishing ahead of Hamilton.

You seem to have forgotten the first part of the race when Hamilton had about 10 seconds on bottas and then got stuck behind max who was lapping a second slower....oh and then the tyre issues.

Bottas is a great driver but I don't see him mentally breaking Lewis and finishing ahead

Well, we all were aware that these regs would make overtaking even harder. Until they start allowing cars to follow closely in dirty air through fast corners it's always going to be an issue.

However, as a Hamilton fan, I'm delighted that the Ferrari is so fast, and delighted for Seb (if a little sorry for Fred).

Unfortunately, It's going to be a tactical season as opposed to a close racing and lots of passing one.

Did they? Quickest in testing....best on a long run? I'd hardly call ferrari an underdog this year!

Anyone else pissed off at the Sky graphics?

All we got was 'Battle' timings, no list of the other runners and gaps from 1st etc.. Camera stayed on some cars for way too long, felt like I was watching it on a dodgy feed somewhere.

If I said yes would it stop you coming on the internet to piss and moan for 3 years?

It's not Sky, but the world feed. They've had timing issues all weekend.

All graphics are done by FOM, the feed is the same to every broadcaster, noting to do with Sky.

They had some problems in qualifying with them not showing up.

Ah ok, fair.

It was terrible.. had no idea where others were currently at, other than those they showed for battle timings.

The engine regs yes.

Ross has said they will tweak regs year by year.

The key is that it will take a bunch of smart people some months to develop and model a future set of regs. And then you need to give the teams 18 months or so to develop/invest.

You can't blame Sky for that. That was down to the world feed.

So a fairly uneventful race - yet still 37 pages of comments. WRC, WEC, BTCC would love that kind of interest....

To be fair it's 36 pages of aerodynamic experts telling other aerodynamic experts why they're wrong.

Well... very boring race. Glad to see a different winner. The Ferrari looks the faster car re' race pace. It'll be an OK season but these new cars don't deliver any new thrills and spills; if anything, they're a step down in that regard frown
