Whilst they definitely had a torrid time of it in testing, wasn't the 2015 season pre-season testing even worse for them? They managed to get 1 of the cars to the finish in that season, but the other one didn't start the race - or might have been sitting in the pitlane or something else and didn't move from there. Or was it a morning practice failure? They should at least get both cars to the grid and a few laps under their belts...

I think it's pretty much a given that neither car will see the checkered flag, not even Boulier is that optimistic.

The real question here is will they out-qualify the Saubers.

Personally, I think not.

I don't know.. 1 might.

2015 I think they managed 380 laps in pre-season testing

2017 it was around 425...

So not that much better - but I seem to remember (I think) that 2015 laps were amazingly slow ones. The MGU (K or H I can't remember or both and/or possibly the ERS) wouldn't deploy so they were massively down on power.

I'd be really disappointed (but not necessarily surprised) if one of them didn't last 3/4 race distance...

It seems like they haven't learnt much from 2015 onwards and repeated the same or similar mistakes. Which seems really odd as they must have some really intelligent people on the team and lots of resources available. Although saying that their foray as a Manufacturer Team/BAR was terrible... The glory days of the Marlboro McLaren Honda team seem long gone - when they set the standards that others aspired to.

I think they'll finish, but they'll have had to turn things down so much that they'll be dead last.

So they did better than I thought. How many laps did they do combined ?

Off the top of my head
Alonso retired after 50 laps I think and Vandoorne did the whole 54. Not bad going

Has to be said they did a lot better than anyone would have guessed based in testing shame Alonso just missed out near the end.

Yes, considering this is their 3rd year, amazing job!

Not.
