Evening all!!
My lad who is at Uni studying motorsport engineering has a question. Help gratefully received 're the answer!
Here we go....

What is the difference, or what are the separate roles of an F1 Chief Engineer (Car) and a Chief Engineer (Performance) - I am aware that these two roles come under the Chief Engineering Officer (who I'm guessing is responsible for the roles of the Car and Performance Engineers, but what are each of them responsible for?

I would guess that the performance engineer is responsible for the overall performance of the design - powertrain, aero, integration, chassis.
Car engineer then works with the driver to set the car up for the track and help the driver get the most out of it

I would have thought that one was responsible for setting the car up correctly for the circuit using data from simulators, the previous year and from boffins back at the factory. The second role is to optimise performance on each run, looking at track conditions, weather, fuel load, tyres and hw each driver feels after the installation lap. Both will be talking and leasing with mechanics and those involved in the electronics and gearbox settings. Just my 2 pence worth.
