The ?fia Member Clubs and Sport Federations of the Americas sends a letter in support of ?Ben Sulayem, noting he is elected by membership, and calls for legal action to be taken against “those who slander the FIA and its leadership.”

How long before Liberty engineer a split between F1 and the FIA?

Something stinks about him and the FIA. Obviously the BBC can't say what they think they know, but it has to be 'something' for them to bother reporting on the departure of woman that virtually no one has even heard of. In fact for them to be tracking the story at all...

I suppose as soon as they have enough non permanent, street tracks to run a championship outside of an FIA veto?

Silverstone needs FIA clearance for all of its other motorsport championship rounds.

I assume that Vegas, Miami, etc. couldn't give a monkey's about the FIA.

Madrid and Chicago waiting in the wings, too.

For me, FIA vs F1 owners is more a case of which one I hate the least. Both suck and have gone hand in hand to make the sport a farce. F1 could go on their own but would need their own tracks but who on earth (apart from our American rights owners/saudi investors) want to see more American street races or dull racing in the Middle East?

It still leaves the middle east $ problem. They're getting some of the best paying circuits and I assume having an Emirati such as MBS installed at a high level in the sport is part of that arrangement, unspoken of course.

Perhaps if there is a coup to discredit the FIA via digging up dirt on MBS (probably an easy enough task), that might be why several people signed that open letter of confidence in his role - to protect the FIA and the sport itself. It's not in everyones interest to separate the sport from the FIA, even if there is corruption at the FIA.

It would certainly be a very different F1 calendar without them!

How to put this politely... The ME countries are rich and influential enough to say to the FIA "shove it up your a*rse". It's the other circuits that can't.

True, but they'll always want 'their man' MBS or others, involved high up in the organisation they're paying all that money too.

I guess a space can be found on the board at liberty..

When the time comes to sell there's a decent chance the buyers will be from the ME.

Hasn't it mainly been thus ? Bernie with FOCA vs FIA.
A period of relative harmony with Max & Bernie transformed the sport and made it much safer.

But Liberty Media has it's own agenda which goes against the grain of sport.

Media companies should not control sports events.

Playing devils advocate here, but he did a lot of good and grew motor sport in all disciplines whilst head of the local MSA and deputising at the FIA.

Also the F1 at yas pays its way, I heard they only need to sell out the VIP boxes and that’s the hosting fee paid for. This was before they added another floor to the VIP section.

There appears to be a bit of "campaign" to highlight the FIA's every little problem at the moment. Be interesting to know what's driving it, Joe Saward probably knows but will allude to it in incomprehensible utterings and tell everybody he was right all along if anything actually happens.
