Lol so true, people do come up with ridiculous names, Vettel being another, obviously on a different level to Mick Schumacher but still, did people not see his final years!

Alonso to Mercedes in 2025 biggrin

He spent the last two New Year’s Eves hanging out with Russell.

Would Lando want to jump ship to Mercedes?

Lando to Mercedes. Sainz back to McLaren?
Sainz is widely thought to be a shoe-in to lead the new Audi effort. Andreas Seidl speaks well of him from their time together at McLaren, and a further plus for Audi is that Sainz Snr just won the Dakar rally for them so there's a good marketing angle.

I don't necessarily see Mercedes looking for a 'top tier' driver to replace Hamilton. I can see Russell being made No. 1 Driver with a solid No. 2 being brought in.

Sainz will probably be off to Audi. IMO I rate him on the same level as Leclerc so a lead driver for Audi, plus there is the link already there between Sainz Snr and Audi. So a painful 2025 prior to the new rule changes and full manufacturer support in 2026.

Albon or Ocon would would be my guess. Both have shown improvement over the past few years but neither would trouble a team leader.

Outside chances, Vettel comes out of retirement (Schumacher did it for Merc), Bottas returns as the most solid No. 2 Driver there is, or Alonso has one last championship crack at it before retirement.

Also, Carlos Sainz could do a swap.

Who do Mercedes have on their junior team books?
Audi have their eyes on Sainz.

I was hoping Norris was going to Ferrari, but could LH leaving Mercedes be the start of the winding down of the team?
I think that is very possible.

With Andrea Kimi Antonelli on their books? I think we have an interregnum situation at Mercedes but they will return. Antonelli is a generational talent.

Should have done a poll!

Another one for Albon here, especially if he has a good season.

Outside and sneaky shot for Lawson too.
I think Lawson is a good shout, the guy has great potential.

Kimi Antonelli is rated by some as the hottest junior prospect in single seaters and is on Mercedes' books

But he's only 17 and is about to start his first season in F2.

That'll need to be some kind of debut season to get him the seat.

Then there is obviously Schumacher Jnr, but I can't see sponsors, etc being comfortable with a 7 time WDC leaving and his replacement being a guy who couldn't cut it at Haas......

They still manage Ocon......
Good points but if he did win f2 (which is possible) merc maybe looking to build their own max verstappen. However max ws not the polished driver and made ALOT of mistakes in the jnr redbull team. Seems too big a jump

I am thinking Albon. The Williams team are more Merc than Red Bull and I suspect he would be a good fit and gets on very well with George. Also both taller...

Ah yes....extra teams coming in.

Could be a solid choice for Audi if they could get him in the team.

They won't rebrand the team or have their own engine until 2026, but they already have a shareholding in the team, which they will be increasing incrementally as they take over the team completely ahead of 2026. They already have their man installed as team CEO. If they want Sainz for 2025 then they will get him, but he will have to be a Sauber driver for a year before everything is rebranded for 2026.
