Bloody clever of Adrian to have Eddie J as his manager.

"Let me think, who is the kind of manager who will go into a revolving door behind me and come out in front..."

It's Eddie or Bernie...

Gun to the head is more appropriate. Do you feel lucky punk.

He's moving away from the F1 team early next year and leaving RB completely once the RB17 track car program is completed. That'll keep him busy until 2026 then. If part of his reason for leaving is not liking how F1 is going I think he may well opt for retirement. He's made all the money, and certainly has nothing else to prove in F1.
I read the announcement as - leaves F1 now, develops the track car - leaves entirely Q1 2025…..
Indeed very cleverly worded to make it seem like he is going to be there longer than he is.
Q1can be anything between 1st January to 31st March.

My money goes on 1st January 2025. The same day the 2026 car rules are released.

They all know the majority of the 26 rules already. They aren't officially allowed to work on the cars yet though.

You can bet there is a sketch book full of pencil drawings though.

Thought that this was an interesting excerpt out the BBC article;

"He also revealed that his departure had been handled by former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan, who Newey described as his “close friend and manager”.

Jordan and Newey have succeeded in pulling off a major coup in extricating the designer from a contract that ran to the end of 2025 and included a 12-month “non-compete” clause which should have meant he was not available to any other team until 2027 at the earliest."

In recent years had considered EJ to be more of a s**t stirrer who maybe had his ear to the ground but wasn't involved with anything current in F1 in terms of contracts with teams and drivers. Turns out in this instance, and in terms of where AN ends up he knew the details exactly!

Andretti..and TP?
There was an article on Autosport yesterday about Newey's option after Red Bull and it said that there are only 5 options in reality - Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari or retirement.

Neither Mercedes or Aston are likely due to Newey's personal dislike of Toto Wolff and Lawrence Stroll.

Newey is good friends with Zak Brown at McLaren but the team does not have the financial resources to be able to deliver what Newey can do for them.

So it is either Ferrari or retirement.
Zak Brown has publicly said he is happy with the structure at McLaren and the direction they are heading in. Which sort of rules it out as well as the cash problem.
Well, if you coudn't afford him, and the support team, then you would say that. Wouldn't you?

I'm almost as surprised to learn EJ is Newey's manager as I am that he's out of RB. Was this common knowledge among the PH collective?

For me, EJ's the bigger surprise of the 2.

I had no idea and am rather bafflled that a designer would have/need a 'manager'.

Not to me either. Feels a bit weird in all honesty.

Think Newey might go for other ventures at this point, if money isn't a motivating factor. Not sure any team has that much of a draw unless he wanted to help some 'friends' at lower teams where money won't matte so much.

To pick up new regs and go again in 26 with the expectations of the tifosi, with the list of other things he's said he would love to do (and had the freedom to do at RBR) will I guess depend on how much he still wants to do F1 things and if the Ferrari feeling bigger than is other passions.

Does seem a bit odd, and EJ of all people.

Why? Earns big bucks. Skilled at designing cars. Not skilled at negotiating commercials.

Eddie Jordan. Not skilled at designing cars. Skilled at negotiating commercials.

I had no idea either but if the formula 1 world is really the 'shark tank' it is sometimes made out to be then Newey may have wanted a canny operator to represent him rather than have to deal with all that himself.

I get the impression that Newey really doesn't like the confrontational aspect of negotiating contracts, exits, etc.

He's not into politics

Such things are Jordan's speciality, so it makes sense to leave them to him.

I am still surprised they are that close though and EJ has never been mentioned in this capacity before.

Wonder what kind of cut Newey had/has to give him? If you shake hands with Jordan, you need to check your wallet and watch afterwards.

Eddie apparently introduced Newey to Oyster yachts. Eddie has one (and seems to be some sort of brand ambassador|), Adrian has one being built.

Quite possibly - I mused a while back that they might not make a fuss trying to tie AN down to his contract terms, it depends what he knows and how much of it could come out if they went to court to enforce the terms of the contract.

Or.. he was never tied down beyond the end of this season in the first place. Who knows.
