BBC reporting the exit deal announced with mutually complimentary salutations uttered by CH and AN. Lawyers can now log off because AN is unsurprisingly available to design a 2026 car, should he so desire. Gosh, the divorce has such a friendly veneer smile
Gun to the head is more appropriate. Do you feel lucky punk.

Or.. he was never tied down beyond the end of this season in the first place. Who knows.

I think it's interesting how much I (and seemingly others) really wanted all this to come true - we wanted Newey to leave Red Bull, we wanted him to join a rival team, we wanted him to be free leave by Christmas and thus to make a full contribution to the other team's 2026 car. Each new BBC story confirming another step of this has put a smile on my face.

I think it's partly the chance to end one man's dominance of F1, partly the chance to see whether Newey can pull it off again at another team, partly just because it's exciting when big changes happen.

Anyway it seems like the fairy tale is coming true, now I (selfishly) just need him to design a world-beating Ferrari for Lewis to win his 8th Championship and ensure the official record books properly reflect his GOAT status winkbiggrin

Well there you go. The only person other than AN or CH who can confirm what really happened in the negotiations is a person that loves to exaggerate and sometimes downright tell porkies...

I think we won't ever know what happened or what deal was made to get Newey out, apparently quickly and cleanly. It hardly matter though - exciting that he's on the move... unless he does just retire rofl

So excited by the news I had to join!
Sobering up somewhat I have to say I dont feel there is some instant desire for Newey to work against his current/previous team. Its fans that want revenge not grown ups.
Some of the motivation to leave may be the fear that Red Bull cannot make an engine from zero previous. Does he want to see his efforts wasted?
I think he will be happy to step away in the interim and see what happens in 2026.
Even though very successful you often see him checking out the other cars for ideas and inspiration.
He made Mercedes ideas work on the redbull after all this year.
I think he will most likely join Ferrari during the 2026 season after seeing if engine is not a dud and with a head full of ideas after seeing the 2026 cars.
He may follow Rory Byrne working as an outside consultant to ferrari.
Newey must be impressed at how ferrari are the only team to get close to redbull,so he knows a good team of engineers are there.
Lastly its Ferrari. Maybe he got inspiration by Lewis making the move.

Given these recent revelations, I'm torn between whether EJ has gone up in my estimation or Newey has gone down.

Looks like the little tinker has played a blinder, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. thumbup

Adrian is quite a quiet, composed leader seemingly with high personal integrity. If you are in the world of F1 I think you want a super smart, "cunning as a fox" business man to buffer you from contract negotiations. Even paying Eddie 10% is probably excellent value.

Yes, quite agree and my comment was somewhat tongue in cheek. I have no doubt EJ is a shrewd operator.

That would more of a travesty / tragedy than Abu Dhabi 2021.

Alonso winning it for them would be utterly glorious - FA soooooo still "has it" in the right car...

Anyway, back on topic - as you were gentlemen....

Exactly, I don't like EJ (well his TV persona anyway) but if I wanted somebody to negoiiate an F1 contract on my behalf he'd be my first choice.

This is all exciting stuff to consider, the idea of Newey at Ferrari with Lewis is FAR more exciting than anything I expected to be discussing in F1 anytime soon.

We should take a moment to thank Horner for having the selfless decency to set both owners of Red Bull against one another and kick off a power battle, culminating in us seeing his texts about getting a cheeky hand job and knocking one out solo in the plane bathroom. His contribution has brightened up the sport no end cloud9

Just a thought: Is it possible the only reason Newey thanked EJ as his "friend and manager" is because he is leaving the sport? He's a private man, and has kept this connection quiet in the past. Going forward, everyone will view EJ's ramblings as 'from the horses mouth'.
So perhaps AN doesn't need to worry about this because he won't be negotiating any future F1 contracts?
