It’s not just the predictability, the cars just don’t look or sound special, the fact they break lap records mean nothing if they don’t appear or look fast.
Look at videos of the old 2000-2009 cars, they look like their being driven on a knife edge with sound to boot, nowadays they look slow and sound flat and boring.
Its telling that the last few times I’ve been to Silverstone, the better “spectacle” was the feeder series

Yep, it is depressingly underwhelming live now. Look at videos of the old 2000-2009 cars, they look like their being driven on a knife edge with sound to boot, nowadays they look slow and sound flat and boring.

I've been to at least one race per year for the last thirty-five years or so, but I don't think I will bother this season. Dull cars that sound ste, and the same winner every race.
It’s not just the racing that’s dull it’s just the formula in general. I’ve zero interest in a hybrid turbo v6 and even less one with even more electric power that’s to come. The cars are far too big, too heavy and downright dull. Even the recent v8 cars look completely alive by comparison as they move around the circuit, with suspension that actually works and an engine that sounds semi decent.
Time for a breakaway fromula for 500kg v10 cars run on sustainable fuel with tyres that aren’t useless if overheated.

That's precisely what's needed. We all know it, why do we have to tolerate the current st?F1 is dead now. I started about 30 years ago. Never missed races. Now I can't watch some of them. If I see a result I won't bother. I used to still watch to see how things h folded but there's no motivation there anymore.
Classic tracks are disappearing, the calendar is ballooning and the cheats at Red Bull have been allowed to prosper unchecked with a pathetic "punishment" after their budget cap breach.
It's very clear to me that the current owners of Formula 1 don't really care about us legacy fans. They're trying to create a new generation of social media idiots instead.
They've killed the sport.

Yep. I used to spend 3 days at Silverstone just watching the tyre testing back in the day. You could hear the cars as you arrived at the circuit and the sight and sound of them was just intoxicating. I was so disappointed when I first saw the hybrids in person. No matter what some try and tell you, sound is a massive part of the experience of watching motorsport. That’s why I have my surround sound cranked up watching the IMSA race from Long Beach right now! Yep, I used to go to the tyre testing at Silverstone, and the young driver tests as well. They'd usually only open the circuit from Woodcote down to Copse, but I'd still drive for two hours each way to hear those cars.TroubledSoul said:

$1m overspend on a $130m budget, less than 1%. Yeah, that's why they're prospering..... tele_lover said:

That was the figure decided on behind closed doors IIRC?Red Bull decided not to submit accounts to see if they were correct, whilst Spunk Finger was telling the media how all teams would find it difficult to remain within budget. I could see that RBR would really surprised to be found to be overspending. Imagine the shock!

What's wrong with this?16-20 events per year was about right.

The excitement for each event is diluted the more of them you add. I don't want to commit to so many weekends per year on F1, either. For the teams, they have less and less to spend whilst the staff are being asked to give more and more time away on double and triple headers.
16-20 events per year was about right.
That and the new events are nearly all street circuits of some kind with grisly limited redeeming features. 16-20 events per year was about right.
Sometime around 2004 they were recording some Radio 5 sports show nearby so we went along. A question was asked relating to F1 being boring because Schumacher was winning everything. The host asked if anyone was an F1 fan. I'd had a couple of pints and without thinking, popped my hand up, then looked round to my horror and realised I was the only one. The host basically asked me to defend the sport. I was a big fan but I really struggled to offer anything, and just blathered something about appreciating what Schumacher was doing.
Schuey's dominant days were tough, as were Vettel's and Hamilton's, but I think the current state is the worst I've ever seen.
I can't recall any season where I could say with near certainty who will win the WDC before the end of March. There's no competition from the second car; there's perhaps more overtaking but it's not exciting because it's usually a contrived disparity of DRS or tyres; the top teams don't "catch up" like they used to (presumably because of the cost cap and testing restrictions); and you barely even have the jeapardy of reliability any more.
I had high hopes when Ross Brawn took over but the hope's gone. I had signed up for a year's NowTV subscription but cancelled it after the first couple of races. It'll just be highlights for me now.
It struck me today when I flicked over to the FA Cup semi-final after watching today's race. I'm not a massive football fan and didn't support either side, but bloody hell, it was absolutely thrilling in all the ways F1 isn't at the moment.
