Just thought I'd show you these pics.
Seats bought from Phillpot - but they were grey. Not any more biggrin

Initial coat just to get in nooks and crannies applied with a sponge (supplied) after stripping off the top surface of leather with acetone (supplied in kit)

Still a little patchy

Colour stage finished

I am now applying the final clear sealing coats with an airbrush - that also comes in the kit from furniture clinic.

Oh yes and wheelie bins make a brilliant stand eek

There's a full article in Sprint this month (so I am told...)

And you're right - the kit is brilliant.

Aaaaannnnndddd..... yes wheelie bins make great stands (for those of us with spines too knackered to work on things on the floor any more...)

Hi Chris,

Can you advise who supplied the kit and, if possible, an idea of the cost.

Thanks
Dave

http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leather_Colourant... £55 + vat and delivery

Kits are near the bottom of the page.
I used the £55 kit although I do seem to have quite a bit left.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info.

Based on what you've done (and watching some videos on the furnitureclinic website) I'm inspired to have a go at repairing my very original (and very cracked) seats. I'll let you know how I get on...

Has anyone got any experience of how long lasting their restored seats are? does the furniture clinic stuff last? has anyone had to use the filler/putty for the cracks?
looking to do my interior soon
cheers

The thing that wasn't apparent to me and I have only discovered subsequently is that I should have taken quite a lot of the surface off with the stripper on the cracked areas - I believe so that the cracks are no longer visible.
I haven't taken so much off and the cracks are still slightly visible, so time will tell if they quickly come back.

Also in the instructions Furniture Clinic will lend you a compressor for the airbrush - £80 deposit and £20 to cover pickup anc collection - no charge for rental.

From what I know now I would ring Furniture Clinic and discuss your requirements - I just ordered the kit online and went for it, I might have had a slightly better result if I'd chatted to them.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. I've watched a couple of the video's on the FurnitureClinic web site and the guy who's doing it was certainly quite aggresive with the "scourer".

Interesting point about the compressor, I'll need to go and re-read the literature as I was under the impression that the kit came with some propellant.

My seats have some splits in them so I'm going to have to get a repair kit and probably filler as well but this is a no brainer for me... might cost £75 and a few hours (days?) sweat. If they look rubbish I'm no worse off than I am now... replace or re-cover...

The kit does come with couple of cans of propellant - but it does more or less say in the instructions that they are crap and you're better off with a compressor.
The adaptor that came in my kit didn't work on the propellant cans anyway - the little probe that pushes the valve down wasn't long enough - I bought a different airbrush and that was fine, but I ran it from my compressor anyway.
(£9ish from machine mart)
I needed to buy an adaptor for my compressor and the only way I could get one on a Sunday afternoon was to buy an airbrush with it included in the kit.

By the way Dave do you know TVRGIT - he's just done a great seat recolouring article in this months SPRINT - and he's up in Kilt Land somewhere.

Last time I looked Dave was a scot living in Wales - but if you're in Fife as your profile says, let me know and you can see the finished results for yourself (I was only just over in Fife this morning too...)

Hi Guys,

Yep, back "home" in Fife (woohoo!) wink

TVRGIT - Where abouts are you based (I'm in 'Muchty). Would be really good to see your finished seats. I'm off on holiday from tomorrow for a week, will get in touch when I get back.

Cheers

Looking good Chris, are they fitted yet ? Did you use the little adaptors that Chims have on the drivers seat (if not can I buy them back) ?

Mike.

Can I reignite this topic with a couple of questions?

1. how long does it last?
2. Can you colour the vinyl as well?

Cheers
