Hello all

There was a comment on the MBW SS topic about exhuberant driving on site and how it might not be a good idea as it might mean venues wouldn't invite us back. Having been to a fair few PH SSes over the years, and seen plenty of cars rev up and do burnouts on their way into/out of venues, I just assumed that it was acceptable, and just the PH way - a bit of fun between petrol heads that was harmless as long as basic safety considerations were taken into account.

What do people feel about this? If the consensus of opinion is that this shouldn't happen, then I sincerely apologise to PH and MBW.

It's not usually appreciated by the venues, whatever the views of the people attending. They all have neighbours and won't want to get on the wrong side of them. MBW also has a low speed limit on the approach road, which wouldn't be there if they wanted people to hoon down it.

It may or may not be a coincidence that PH hasn't been back to BMW in Bracknell since some bad driving on the way out, last time.

So best to keep it steady going in/out in my opinion. sleep

In which case, as above I apologise. I'll keep things much calmer in future and leave such things for the track. Sorry guys :-(

Just out of curiosity, what exactly did you do?

I saw a 991 GT3 (with what looked like a teenager at the wheel) and an A45 AMG on the exit road. I'm no expert but I'd have guessed they were around 100mph when they let off.

I noticed Mercedes put a marshall in a B-class 2/3rds of the way down the exit road in an effort to slow people down after the GT3s antics.

I suspected I wouldn't be the worst offender. Just a few full throttle pulls with no tc. Didn't get to those sorts of speeds. All the same I'll keep it more chilled at SSes in future.

As an attender I appreciate a bit of noise, but if it takes serious naughtiness to achieve then that's a worry for all around. I thought the departure of 1 car within the confines of the parking area (black lines left) between 2 rows of still parked cars with kids and buggies about was a bit daft, albeit short lived.

Mainly it's the lack of mechanical sympathy on cold engines that makes me cringe lol

The marshal down towards the roundabout was effective as peeps had to queue to go round it. At the roundabout another marshal was indicating to drivers leaving to take it steady, which most were adhering to.

In my eyes that is completely inexcusable. What if their foot had slipped and they'd run over a child in a push chair?

Some people really are f*cking idiots.

My exhuberant driving was on the exit road. I agree that putting your foot down with people (especially kids) nearby is idiotic.

Drive like a knob and that's the end of that event and we're not invited back.

Although clearly requested time and time again not to drive like a knob.

Previous events have proved this.

Plus we all get tarred with the knob brush

That Mk1 (2?) Escort was the worst of all.

Keep it for the right environment such as Ace Cafe.

Isn't that why Japanese car night was stopped at the Ace Cafe?

I was standing on the exit road taking photos ( practicing my panning ) - there were plenty of people gunning it but some definitely were worse than others, a few gtrs, some newer Porsches etc. I did tell my 11 year old to keep his wits about him as things can go quickly wrong when it's cold and damp.

I'm not a killjoy by any means - I love the sound, the noise and the thrill but MBW has a 20 ( I think ? ) limit for a reason and why not. It'd be a shame to pee them off as its a great venue and they're been amazing hosts over the last few years I've been attending

Obviously MB thought some of the driving was too exuberant, and therefore it was, driving standards should match the expectations of the hosts. The straight after signing in started with no cones, but gradually more and more cones were put out, and then the car put on the exit road later.

The exit road clearly stats 30, has electronic slow down signs and is used by other traffic, so some of the speeds along there were too high IMO, we don't want to upset the hosts who have put a lot into the morning and also have their own reputation to think of.

I totally agree with the speeds on the entry/exit road getting a little out of hand...

But the Petrolhead side of me thinks that it woulda been nice to leave the cones out of that little straight after the sign in, whilst i appreciate things can quickly go wrong, that was a nice opportunity to hear the cars give a little and seemed a fairly safe spot to do so...

Just my opinion ofcourse.

Previous Sunday Services at MBW haven't had those cones - at the last couple at sign-in everyone has been urged to behave on that section. I presume it's because enough have ignored those requests that the cones were put up this time.

The email from PH to those attending the previous Sunday Service at MBW back in April said "Finally it goes without saying that we do not expect any heroic driving on site and you must respect the speed limits set by our hosts. These venues are provided to us to help PHers have a great, free day out. Bad driving means we won't be invited back and you don't want to be the person responsible for cancelled Sunday Service meetings." and the email for this most recent one said "Please respect local residents by keeping noise to a minimum and sticking to posted speed limits.". Part of the problem may be that with all the last minute drop outs not everyone who turns up has received that email, but there may also be people who just don't bother reading the email or ignore those requests anyway.

It's such a difficult thing to manage, an email will be read by most but ignored by a few. I think MB dealt with it well yesterday, but it would be better if it was controlled internally rather than by the hosts. Very difficult though.

I'm glad someone else started this thread.

Despite us clearly asking people to keep their speeds down when welcoming them, 2 seconds later a lot of people were flooring it bangheadmad

We all love the sound of great cars but we also love Sunday Services and people driving like loons jeopardise our events. We absolutely do not want to get a reputation for that kind of driving and which venue in their right mind would welcome us if we had that reputation?

For reference, MB-W have already indicated that if this standard of driving continues, it may not be possible to return, they work hard to be allowed to hold events and make noise, there are strict rules around this and lots of PHers going flat out won't help this at all. This is PH not Max Power.

Convincing venues to welcome 300+ petrol heads and their cars is hard enough without us having a bad reputation so please don't let a few people showing off ruin Sunday Services for everyone else, multiple times the speed limit is not acceptable.

Sorry to moan but this is something that could seriously affect the future of our events ranting

Nope that would be my GP.....

Totally understood re the venues wanting good driving standards - as per above I won't be hooning at a SS venue again - not worth ruining PH's hard work and everyone's fun in the long term.
