So run or support an event where that can happen, just not on the public road. With the kind of numbers SS seems to attract, it can't be that hard. Except that it seems it is, because people can't manage to confine their behaviour to where it belongs.

I wasn't able to make it to the SS due to working literally 2 minutes down the road on the Byfleet road. I wondered if there'd be a thread about the driving tbh, as all I could hear echoing everywhere was people driving like idiots! If I didn't know it was PH SS, I'd have just assumed a few chavs had gone out for a drive.

Last time I went to MBW about 3 years ago someone took a photo of me driving away. I was only doing about 20-30mph at very most, but the person taking the photo was shooting at such a slow shutter speed, the background was blurred and it looked like I was doing about 60mph! yikes

I haven't been to many Sunday Services over the last 3 years, I went to one at Silverstone a few years back and just coming off a roundabout was overtaken on the inside and cut up by pair of Porsche's coming away from the SS meeting whilst flooring it down the dual carriageway.

Still don't know how they missed the car on the inside of me about (20 feet in front of them) and the front corner of my Focus. The worst driving I have ever seen.

I still don't get what the appeal is of showing off and driving like an 17 year old in a clapped out Saxo is. It just gives a bad image of Car meets and PH.

I went to the Gaydon SS last year. Unfortunatley in the 30 limit nearby, I was passed by four t.w.a.t.s. racing each other just before the turn to the Gaydon site. Hardly what the hosts would hope for when trying to keep neighbours on side.

One reason why I won't associate myself with these meets again. Utter s in my mind.

Hi guys,

I'm the Senior Instructor at Mercedes-Benz World heading up the events for the Tracks and I have the privilege of working with Nathan and the rest of the PH team putting the Sunday Service on at our site.

In terms of driving standards, given the number of people attending it's extremely high and it would be a disservice to all of the amazing people/vehicles that attend the Sunday Service events to say that it was the majority of attendees because it's not.

At the end of the day I'm a racing driver / petrol head and like a lot of you if I see a straight bit of road my IQ can dip and my right foot creep down a bit further than it should. All I would say to those that do find themselves in this position is when attending a Sunday Service event please remember that you are in a controlled environment with a huge number of static vehicles, pedestrians and street furniture and it's simply not worth an incident occurring for people to realise that it's probably not a good idea to be doing 100MPH irrespective of the vehicle you're in. Keep the speeds down in and around the sites you're attending regardless of whether it's private land or not and people will continue to embrace all that is PH.

In my opinion the bottom line is it's simply a case of common sense prevailing so that we can continue to hold these fantastic events long into the future and continue enjoying the amazing array of vehicles being showcased.

Thanks to each and every one of you that attend and make the Sunday Services what they are.
Great venue and activities thoroughly enjoyed it. I really hope that this thread goes to show a very very high percentage of PHers consider driving like an idiot in and around these events as completely unacceptable. I greatly look forward to the event you help organise next year :-)

My experience: I had the Marshall at the exit of the roundabout giving me the big slow down gesture so I eased off... From the 18mph I was doing at the time :-)

Was my first Sunday Service, thoroughly enjoyed it and hope some of the hooners can contain themselves at future events so that they may continue.

Can't say the driving has ever been an issue at any of the SS i've attended, either at Silverstone, HMC or Morgan. At the last JLR meet the nearest we got was a CLS63 getting a bit noisy after he's left the car park.
Hands up that was me. I would like to point out that it's very easy to make noise without driving lime a bellend and endangering others, infact it can be done in appropriate places without making any progress at all !

As for MBW i've been tnere many times both as PHer and forAMG events, unfortunately that entry road is just far too tempting for the hard of thinking and cones/marshalls are an unfortunate necessity if people continue to disengage both TC and brain.

IMO the mark of a "proper" petrolhead is that he/she knows how to appreciate their car by driving it well, but also the time and the place to do it...

I'll bet there's a bit of hypocrisy in all of us on this.

I'm 99.9 percent with the majority here - I don't want to hear another R35/911/Escort hoon up the road. It's not novel or exciting. But 0.1 percent of me wants to hear/see something more interesting do the same. Like the XJ220 that appears to have set off the speed warning indicator in the photos, for example.

The ideal is to chose venues that provide for the latter, but that rules out many more interesting venues.
That's the real problem here isn't it. Most PHers would love to hear some of the special cars that turn up to Sunday Services at full chat and they'd excuse the owners being a bit naughty to do so(although some might not admit that).

I'll stand up and admit to it, love it in fact, the chance to see and hear things driven is music to me.

Wings & Wheels at Dunsfold do a "drag" run up the runway for this very reason, 2 at a time but staggered start so not competing,

Maybe we can get a SS there with this set up for a charitable fee, Dan??????? thumbup

Just saw this thread and I have to say I find peoples driving standards very disrespectful. I'm no saint and I don't have any intention of making out like I am, but, leaving a PH trackday at Goodwood and sliding out of the paddock (yes Mr Monaro, I'm looking at you....) is just totally wrong. As is lighting up the wheels in the paddock when leaving the Sunday Service which many people were doing yesterday.

The modified car scene has taken a big hit lately as a lot of local meets to us have been shut down, all because of one or two idiots displaying their genital inadequacy. PH'ers are a more mature crowd but it only takes one or two people to get a good event shut down.

As I said, I'm no saint and I have been known to show off from time to time but there is a time and a place. A PH event is not one of them.

100% agree. If anyone is witnessed behaving inappropriately by Venue/PH staff they (and the car) should be banned from the next X Sunday Services. No warnings, no second chances. A clear message needs to go out to any mouth-breathers so that we can safely preserve what is a superb formula.

Mainly it's the lack of mechanical sympathy on cold engines that makes me cringe lol
^ this, I cant remember which Porsche it was but he started it up from cold and immediately floored the loud pedal to the max for some PHers who were looking at his car. He then immediately turned it off. Now that cant be good for the engine.

I personally didn't see much nobish behaviour but obviously there was some as this thread wouldn't have been made otherwise. Please keep this sort of driving for the track as we all enjoy seeing all the wonderful metal on display and it would be a shame for this to be cancelled because of a few clowns.

Whilst I agree with you on that one it's so hard to make that actually work. As Haymarket staff I have helped at a few Sunday Services and there is no time to stop people on the gate, you will just cause congestion.

Hi Guys

just to clear up the issue with the Monaro,
the guy who owns and drove it magnificently all day,Biglumpdriving, left with me in the MX5. Another of our friends, non PH, drove the Monaro out accompanied by his GF, as we pulled out we heard the slight squeal of Vred's and simultaneously said "nooooo Roo, not here" yikes
I hereby apologise to all that may have been offended by his exuberance, but please dont give Biglump the undeserved fistingthumbup ............well, maybelaugh

Cheers

Just been made aware of this topic and after seeing the comments have to reinforce what Hayling Jag is saying here (altho not too sure about the magnificent driving on track).

Needless to say that having given my keys to my mate he obviously thought being Jack the Peanut was the order of the day so apologies to all,but for once I'm not guilty as charged! Lesson learnt regarding keys and safe custody thereof!

Off the top of my head if all attendees had to input the first part of their registration along with model/make of car it should make it fairly easy to put usernames to vehicles? I am aware that people sometimes need to change vehicles at the last minute, but unless people were purposely being obtuse regarding their choice of car to indulge in anti -social behaviour, then it should largely work...also if there was a policy that the car must be registered by 8am on the morning of the event. Alternatively just name and shame on the Sunday Service forum, any vehicles behaving in an unacceptable manner. All it takes is a quick input of reg/.model into their phone by the official/witness at the time of the 'offence' Eg 'owner/driver of this car is banned from SS for a year unless you make yourselves known to PH by email and discuss with us the reasons for said behaviour and then maybe we can reduce the level of ban subject to the direction of the conversation etc etc
