PH Christmas extravaganza at Goodwood

To paraphrase a well-known seasonal saying, peace on earth and Goodwood for all this Christmas...

First an apology. Here at PH we generally adopt the "Christmas shouldn't be discussed until December" camp, but just occasionally we need to make an exception in order to get things arranged in time. And this is one of those moments. Sorry.

BMW fleet awaits tyre abuse - give 'em hell!
BMW fleet awaits tyre abuse - give 'em hell!
But the good news is that in order to celebrate a fantastic year of PH and get everyone into the festive spirit we're having an end of season get together at the ever-popular Goodwood Motor Circuit. This epic weekend of intense Christmas joy will kick off with a track day on the legendary track on Saturday December 13. It'll be a fast, fun and fairly exclusive day with a limited number of places.

The very next day we'll be holding our last Sunday Service of the year, again making use of the motor circuit. It's been a hell of a year for us with some great venues and lots of brilliant PH metal being shown off, but we want to end on a high. We'll try our best to bring some extra festive cheer with us to get any Scrooges in the mood, but if you still need convincing then consider that both of these events also provide a fortuitous excuse to avoid having to go Christmas shopping. Bonus! For those of you who fancy it there will also be a powerslide experience using Goodwood's fleet of brand spanking new BMWs and their recently constructed low grip area. This 15-minute experience will be available on a first come, first serve basis on the day in exchange for £25 in cash-money. The only question is who will get more than their £25 worth out of the tyres?!

Last time I drove down to this end-of-year Goodwood SS a Subaru in front crashed into a ditch, I nearly slid into an M3 in front and managed to powerslide my 70bhp Triumph Spitfire around a corner in West Sussex. Beware of icy roads!

Other than the car, what else are you expected to bring? I'm completely ignorant in these matters.

Gutted my engine has a poorly cylinder which won't be repaired before 13th, otherwise I would've been really up for the track day - £150 is a good price! Will still drive down gently to watch on the 13th and join in on the 14th though!

Should hopefully have my new VXR8 by then, possibly pick it up the day before if the stars align! It is currently on the high seas somewhere on its way from Australia.

Well I sent the link to my Mrs, planning to go do the Sunday Service, but she got all excited about the trackday and has booked it!

That's why I married her smile

One question though, if I have put winter tyres on by then, should I bring some summer/all weather tyres for the track work? The only track driving I've ever done is a few laps of the 'Ring, so not well versed in these things.

Definitely - you'll destroy winter tyres in a couple of laps even on a damp track, they're not designed to be used on a track (unless it it covered in snow and ice... in which case no one will be going out on it anyway!).

If you're a novice then just regular all weather tyres will cover you for anything from a bone dry to a sopping wet track, so that would be your best bet.

Make sure you come and say hello to all of us PH staff on the day - there should be at least 3 or 4 of us on the trackday with a variety of cars.

Very nice! But at a quoted £170 for the Saturday night, it's a little steep for me. (And I'll have to miss the brekkie!)
