Thinking of doing one of these for the first time - I have driven on track before quite a bit but not in my own car. Is the general consensus to go without insurance and just risk it? Is that what most people do? Track day insurance for 30 minutes seems a bit steep.
Any advice welcome - thanks.
I've never tracked my car, but I'd say going in uninsured is a massive risk. Just do a search on here for track day crash. It can become very expensive.

Having never driven on track before, I took the plunge at this event a couple of years ago. I was apprehensive but it was a great introduction. Everyone drove respectfully as they lapped me!

Sure it's a risk, but you have to make your own decision. We insured ours for the PH Goodwood day but we never even got close to having any kind of incident and we were well off the pace as we took it quite easy, but we still had a great time.

You have to weigh it up and make a choice....

Personally I would have thought spending the extra £45 on instruction for the session would reduce the chances of a crash and would therefore be money better spent.

Well I've just removed myself from the list because I've realised I will be at the 73rd Goodwood Members' Meeting biggrin

Seem to be a fair few dropping out already.

I was looking at the track times and was tempted. Only late morning left with instructors (intermediate session might be a bit too much for me at that time of the morning!), but with insurance on top I think I will give it a miss this time. Had I not just bought an engagement ring I would be all over it.

If it's a nice day I'll come on the bike, do motorbikes need to be on the list for this SS?

If your on the reserve list but book a track session, does that ensure you get it ok?

Forgive me if I missed it but can you take passengers on the track session and is there an age limit ? My 11 year old daughter just missed out on age at my last goodwood session !

Is there an FAQ on this somewhere?

Passengers in the car, is there a limit to how many/age?
Helmets required?
Long sleeves?

Also just checked and the sessions I prefer are sold out. If someone can't make the 9:35 or 10:10 session let me know and I'll pay cost for it (assuming it can be transferred?).

I was unsure about what session. I've had a few small sessions in RenaultSport Meganes before, but not taken my XFR on track. I think I'm somewhere between novice and intermediate! I don't want the 9:00 session as I want to get a look round the car park first, and see what the standard of driving is like on track first!

There are a lot of questions answered in the T's and C's on the Silverstone Website.

Additional drivers are fine providing they have signed on with you but bear in mind it's only a 30 minute session so you'll need to do Le Mans style driver changes to ensure you have plenty of time on track driving

The minimum age for passengers is 16 unfortunately. If your passenger is lucky enough to look under 16 it's recommended they take some ID to prove their age thumbup

I'm booked for 9:35 but might have to drop out. I've enquired about transferring it as their T&C's don't say you can't.
