RE: Wales Rally GB Sunday Service
Discussion
Thanks to the PH guys & girls for arranging this! The turnout could have been a lot better but for me was well worth it despite the blustery weather (although it rained far less than expected!)
Messrs Ringer and Grist were a welcome surprise and provided a great insight into the Legend of the great McRae, so well done chaps for arranging it!
After watching the cars come in for the regroup my son and I set off for the Deeside finish, so although we didn't see much of the cars driven in anger it was a great way to spend a Sunday. Just hope the lack of turnout doesn't prevent any further PH activity up this neck of the woods in future. Thanks again (Nathan, M135i)

Agree with all this. I had a great day. Got some "selfies" with Ogier, Latvala and Meeke. Suprisingly dry down in Llandudno although I followed the cars up to Llan Brenig and it was rather wet and windy up there to say the least!Messrs Ringer and Grist were a welcome surprise and provided a great insight into the Legend of the great McRae, so well done chaps for arranging it!

Many thanks to all who organised.

Totally agree, a shame there was so few people out. Thanks to the organisers for sorting it all out, I thought it was all very well done.I came across a blue Clio 182 with orange wheels and PH sticker who I followed for miles along the A55, into LLandudno and eventually onto the Promenade. I'm assuming he was part of the meet but he never appeared in the parking area? Just wondering what happened to him and if anyone knows who he is!
Best SS ever!
The Q&A with Nicky Grist and Derek Ringer was excellent - true legends. That the regroup after Orme was a stone's-throw away was great too.
Thanks to all who made it happen.
That most of the roads in North Wales (and especially the A5 either side of Betws y Coed) were more like rivers in places made for some fabulous, if somewhat sweaty-palmed drives. The Exige coped admirably, and even took quite well to the odd muddy field and sodden forest fire road over the course of the weekend in it's duties as a rally chase car. Could do with a wash now though..
Real shame so many chose not to attend.
Their loss.

The talk by Derek Ringer and Nicky Grist was excellent and very entertaining.
"You know what, Nicky? I think we can jump this."
It's one thing doing that as a driver...but submitting to being a "passenger" in those situations:"You know what, Nicky? I think we can jump this."
I can only imagine what it feels like as you pass the braking point and the driver's still at WOT.
According to our count there were 62 cars. We're disappointed too, but only because so many people missed out! Those who attended enjoyed themselves so much - which in our book still means it was a great success.
We think the bad weather can probably be held accountable for a fair chunk of drop outs, but that's par for the course in North Wales at this time of year.
Anyway, we'll be announcing the next SS in the coming days and we're back to a very popular venue so it is business as usual.

The turn-out was certainly disappointing, but I'd almost certainly blame that on the weather forecast for the day. It was forecasting rain throughout the majority of the morning, but we were given gale force winds instead!
Arrange the same venue in the summer months and you'll see a much bigger turn-out. The location really is a great place to be in the milder, summer months. Plus a convoy to the Evo triangle could be arranged without any complications!
Please keep trying with the area PH, don't be drawn off by the lack of attendees.
Either way, I enjoyed it and the cars looked spectacular parked across the promenade. [Iwan - DC2 Integra]
Obligatory crappy iPhone panoramic shot:

Well we slapped up from Essex on the Saturday, through wind and rain...in a convertible :-)
Pitched up on the promenade and got into the Menai suite just as Nicky and Derek started. Great to hear their stories.
I had the very great pleasure of meeting Colin McRae at goodwood just weeks before his demise. Took time for all the fans, posed for photos and signed everything and really took the time to actually engage with the people who were there. Top fella, unlike some of the other prima donnas who shall remain nameless but I walked away from.
Thanks to all who organised was a top day.

It's also a bit off the beaten path too. I think a midlands SS would work well as its easily accessible by more people.
That was kind of the USP for me.. The location and the journey there and back were the icing on the cake (I'm based in South Warwickshire). Presumably as a member of Pistonheads you have more than a passing interest in driving? If so, you should embrace any excuse to explore North Wales. Despite being excellent, for me the WRC and the SS were simply handy waypoints dotted along the main attraction: The roads. The weather actually made the experience more memorable, and the rewards greater. There's a lot to be said for convenience, but will I always remember another faceless dual-carriageway on the way to Silverstone for the umpteenth time? No.
Wales last weekend, however, was unforgettable..

Absolutely! There's a lot to be said for convenience, but will I always remember another facelees dual-carrigaeway on the way to Silverstone for the umpteenth time? No.

A group of us made a weekend of it, starting out in Bucks early Saturday morning then heading over to the Brecons, up through Wales enjoying the (rather wet) roads and finally basing ourselves up north for the SS. After this we again took to enjoying the local roads whilst heading back to the South East.
The parking arrangements for the SS were absolutely fantastic and i could see this being a real highlight in the summer if it was at all possible. The weather didn't put us off the roads either! For sure you drive to the conditions, but it's all and experience and fun nonetheless
Yep... was a big thumbs up from me.... Grist especially is clearly a consummate story teller and to be almost one-on-one with 2 of the best co-drivers in the sport's history was a chance not to be missed.
Cheers to PH for organizing, glad I decided to sleep in the car for another night to be able to attend!
