Le Mans Friday Service 17/06

Join us again at Classic British Welcome for what promises to be another pre-Le Mans treat!

There aren't many dates in the motoring calendar that can rival, let alone beat, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. One of those, however, has to be the PistonHeads Friday Service, which will be taking place on the 'Good Friday' of the Le Mans weekend.

For the second year running PistonHeads has been allocated space for 200 lucky members at the Classic British Welcome, where readers will have the opportunity to showcase their pride and joy alongside 800 other rare and classic cars. For added incentive we'll be awarding a prize for 'best in show' kindly donated by our finance partner Zuto, which is generously supporting our Le Mans presence.

Throughout the day there will be merchandise stalls as well as refreshments stands selling a variety of food and drink to enjoy while you take in the feast of the cars on display. As well as this there will be the opportunity to look around the exhibition hall of prestige Alpines and listen to guest speakers, including two-time Le Mans winner Jean Pierre Jaussaud.

The day will come to an end with the Saint-Saturnin Cavalcade of prestigious cars making their way into town for the Parade des Pilotes, escorted by a procession of Harley-Davidsons. It promises to be a great day!

To join us at the Classic British Welcome, please add yourself to the calendar here.

Not the admin fault, it's the fault of the people signing up. AIUI, it's one car per sign up, so all this nonsense of "Oh yeah there's me, and I'm going to bring another 27 cars along too" doesn't wash. Put as many people in your own car as you like, but if other cars want to come then they should have to sign up like everyone else. Our group of five have all signed up individually.

I'm really hoping that, on the off chance this fills up, that PH and CBW are strict on entry and ONLY those cars who have signed up via their own PH name are allowed into the PH bit.

CBW is unfortunately a victim of its own success.

1,000 vehicles trying to gain access to the facility via one entrance and one exit does not work.

After the chaos of getting in and out last year we will be giving it a miss.

Indeed, it has come on a long way from the origins of British cars arriving on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to call into the hall/car park for a free cuppa after driving down the N138 - adding the gathering of the drivers parade cavalcade to it 10+ years ago (which used to just gather in the cathedral square), better/wider awareness of it, and PH last year, has built it now to a fantastic array of cars, but with a level of attendance that now simply overwhelms the approaches, entrance and exit - more so than usual. Good luck with maintaining a PH area and getting PHers directed to it.....

There is still a lot of attendees on the calender with comments where they add additional cars. Those cars included in the comments will not get into the event if it fills up.

Would it be an idea to add this to the sign-up sheet to make this very clear to avoid frustration/disappointment on the day?

I'm assuming you don't have to sign-up if you're not displaying your vehicle (and it'll be parked in the public car park) but can still attend?

I haven't seen anything from the OP that indicates how the people on the gate at St Saturnin will tell who is and isn't on the list of those allowed to park on the reserved Pistonheads site - or am I missing something? I recall last year we all had a bit of paper to say we were on the Pistonheads list.

Yes exactly - I came here to ask the same question. Anyone from PH care to update us? We are departing for France tomorrow so need to do any printing ASAP! thanks

Thanks

Hi guys,

Apologies, we had a slightly odd day in the office today due to the outages... And the fact that Ollie was stuck on the M1 for many hours because of the chap threatening to kill himself by jumping off the overhead gantry!

Anyway, instructions are going out tomorrow but of that is too late for anyone just let us know and we'll work it out somehow.

See you in Le Mans!

As long as you don't need a printed entrance pass. I'm not carting a HP Colour LaserJet all the way through France! smile

We may have WiFi. We may have mobile data. We may not.

I've signed up. If my Defender ain't ph enough am happy to give up my spot!

Also what's the earliest I can arrive? And will it be a ball ache if I leave early? I've got be in town at 12:30 to check into my accommodation. Was thinking of doing 9am to 11:30 if It opens that early.

St Saturnin website says 9am start, so that's ok. What's leaving at 11:30 - 12 going to be like? Getting away last year from the public car park was a nightmare but that was later on.
