I'm set on getting to Silverstone Classic this year and hoping to make it a family event.

Lad 15, says he's keen on coming though will prob be bored with the racing after a few hrs. Daughter 14 did like camping but suddenly seems to have aged 5 years and rarely has time to bother responding to any form of communication from me. Mrs will come along but will prob cost me a holiday somewhere.

Just wondering how much 'family' stuff there is to do? Is it unfair to take them? We've done Carfest for the last few years but was somewhat disappointed with last years event. Hoping the Classic will have a bit more car content.

I've been several years and personally I wouldn't describe it as a family venue.
When the Mrs comes with me she is armed with a book so as to entertain her after a while .
Great racing and loads of car clubs to see without a doubt but frankly it's a petrol head venue in my opinion.
An event like festival of speed or the revival have more variations to see.

Yes, there are fairground rides there and Silverstone will welcome you. But if your kids are hands on and want to touch many of the car clubs pride and Joy cars, expect them to get a bking (and you for allowing then to run wild)!

Its all about how respectful you are towards other peoples property. smile

Also be prepared for a serious amount of walking! Much of it is on Grass so push chairs and prams will be a bumpy ride. Also lots of non restricted exhausts so ear defenders are a must for small people.

Ahh no concerns on that front at all. Mine are a bit older and wiser and were brought up knowing the fear of a hot bottom and a TV out the window! laugh

I'm wondering if they will be the only kids on the campsite or will there be others there too? It's advertised as a 'family' event but no doubt it will be much more motorsport focused than Carfest now is.

I'm sure they'll be fine having a day at the track but I imagine by the second or third day they'll be bored of watching cars drive round in circles. That goes for the Mrs too.

Another question in that regard. You you park by your tent or elsewhere? I was thinking of telling the Mrs to come in her own car and that way if her and daughter want an early departure they have the option. It's free parking I believe but could a car be left in the day car parks overnight?

Personally as a complete petrol head I find one day is enough. In my opinion there is not enough other than repeat each day. Mind you that's the same with most events

Good to know.

Maybe I'll make it a day event and have a separate camping trip with the family.

Will have to work out costs. I think the Porsche club offer is for a weekend ticket.

If you've a car-club code you get 2-for-1 tickets for all options (1, 2 or 3-day). Early-bird offer ends 31/3, car-club tickets overall end 31/5.

The 'family' stuff is pretty good, but is really aimed at junior-school ages - decent funfair and some other bits and pieces. And it probably won't keep even that-age kids occupied for more than half a day at best.

Beyond that the catering is pretty broad and they've improved the big-screens and the stand access over the last few years.

But overall, if you've two teenagers that don't really do motorsport or cars, probably leave them behind.

Any chance you could make it a guys weekend with a couple of mates instead?

Thanks for advice all. Have decided to just make it a day trip on the Saturday instead. May even be able to take the Porsche that way too.

Will have a separate camping trip with family and I already have Le Mans booked so will get my boys weekend there.
