Indeed. What's your point (apart from agreeing whith me which the tone of your post suggests otherwise)? My point is that usually because of the nature of the environment that attracts a 30 limit, overtaking in a 30 limit is unsafe. Or if you prefer opportunities to overtake safely are few and fer between in 30 zones. Therefore, the vast majority of the time, someone overtaking in a 30 can be considered a knob.

tts with caravans on windy roads where you cant get passed.

Like the dhead i got stuck behind last Friday from Dartmouth all the way to the A38 the other side of Totnes!!!

What a twunk he was. He could clearly see the tail-back of traffic, in the region of 40 cars, yet he steadfastly refused point blank to pull over when he had the opportunity to let everyone get past him.

wker.

Actually i'm going to say CARAVANS. I hate the fking things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very very aware of this at the moment having bought a new car which is bigger than my last and has wheels which I don't want to damage on kerbs etc. Hateful idiots, often going too fast too.

apart from when it was perfectly safe to do so.

Re : the caravan post, when I was in Canada 10 years ago I noticed there were signs on winding roads advising drivers to pull over if there was a queue of, IIRC, 5 more more vehicles behind them.

There were lay-bys provided at fairly regular intervals and it was / seemed to be an enforceable notice.

A great idea I thought!

cheeeeeesus, OK I'll say it once more and that's it cos i'm sure the readers are getting pissed off with this pedant-off. People can overtake in 30mph zones. It isn't illegal and isn't inherently unsafe so no, I am not agreeing with you. If there is no room to overtake or doing so would be unsafe, clearly yes: driver is a nob. It is more likely to be unsafe in a 30-zone, probably everyone agrees, but it is possible to overtake safely sometimes.

This is even starting to piss me off so let's not talk about it any more please.

The woman in the Saab convertible this morning, sitting in lane two of a two lane motorway at 65 as I came up the inside at 70. I pulled into the outside lane, give a flash to let her know I was there, so she pulled over, I went passed and pulled back into lane 1.

Looked in the mirror and she'd moved back into lane 2 with a completely empty lane 1.

confused

Tractors blocking a single lane route during rush hour.
People that think their car is powered by Fairy Dust.
Cyclists using the road next to a cycle path.
Middle laners.
Dump valves.
People that stick giant eyelashes above the headlights of their Fiat 500.
People that don't indicate their exit off a roundabout.
Varying speeds when cruising.
People that leave full beams on.
People that block a lane at traffic light junctions because they couldn't wait for the next green light.
People that leave acres of space on their driver's side in a parking bay forgetting that you also need some space.
4X4 drivers that forget their headlights are at your mirror height and yet insist on sitting right behind you.
People that drive at half the speed limit.
People that don't realise they've passed from a 40mph zone to a 60mph zone and stay at 40mph.
Dangerous old drivers.
Dangerous young drivers.
Horse riders that use the road.
Cycling races (still not going fast enough to use the road!).
Pedestrians that don't check the main road before crossing at a junction. You are stupid.
People that drive at 45mph no matter what the signs say. Annoying in a 60 zone, dangerous in a 30 and just lazy.
Lorries that overtake another lorry and take 40 minutes doing so.
People that read the newspaper whilst driving to work.
Personal number plate worth more than the car.

I have never agreed with anything more in my life. bow
Except perhaps the dump valves. If I see a kevved up sierra cosworth dump valve is ok.

So you are agreeing with me. It's legal. It can be safe. But most often is not. Therefore most often the person is a knob. Why are you saying you're not agreeing with me? Then saying what I'm saying!

Were you right behind him or caught in a queue of people who don't overtake anything anywhere?

If I was right behind him I'd have done him just after the Sportsman's Arms before the garden centre.
wink

You're wrong on this one.
Most cycle lanes are ste. Most have cars parked in them. It's better to use the road.
Other than that and the bike racing one I agree though.

Stuck in the line maybe 10 cars behind. No one in front made any attempt to get passed him. Nothing I could do apart from waste almost 40 minutes doing a section that can usually be done considerably quicker.

The bloke was a tool who could have pulled over but chose not to.

Prick.

They're fine if you're going less than 10mph and have your wits about you. So many pedestraians just step into them without looking, drivers open doors into them without looking, drivers turn across them (to go down a side road) without seeing you (because they are looking at the road!) and... so many ways to die generally. On the roads you can be assertive.

Uh oh...

Near my house is a well used cycle way thing, a tourist trap kind of idea, well used by middle aged men in lycra who think that because they have massive thighs they could be the next Chris Hoy...

Anyway there is a blind, narrow, but two lane, hump back bridge, it's on a 60 zone and is a real accident black spot.

The other evening there was a couple of cyclist riding two abreast over the bridge, slowly, apparently they are not Chris Hoy, I'm a patient man and have no desire to kill anyone, so I follow cyclist at 5mph over the bridge. At the temp lights after the bridge I wound down my window and politely suggested to the cyclists that not everyone is as patient and polite as me and perhaps it would be wise not to cycle two abreast where conditions are not ideal.

For my trouble I got two helpings of FRO, a bird, and a threat of physical violence.

They were rude. fk them. But you should have just waited until it was safe to pass.

Riding two abreast makes people think twice about overtaking, rather than just squeezing past you.
